News from James Houston Turner, author of the Talanov series! Can't Wait for the Movie!

The headline of our latest press release about Greco’s Game could not have excited me more: David Marconi to Direct Wonderfilm's Screen Adaptation of James Houston Turner's Action Novel, Greco's Game!

You have definitely seen some his films:
Enemy of the State (Will Smith and Gene Hackman), Live Free or Die Hard (Bruce Willis), and, most recently, The Foreigner (Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan). When it comes to screenwriters, they don’t get any better than David Marconi.

But the good news does not end there, for Mr. Marconi has not only written the Greco's Game screenplay with the help of William J. MacDonald (The Saint, with Val Kilmer, Rome, and Sliver), but he will also be directing the film!!! Here’s what he had to say about Greco’s Game: “Talanov is such a rich and nuanced character, and the novel’s plot is so timely with what is going on in our world, I had to jump in to direct this film.”

New Historical Novel by Canadian Author David Mulholland Fact or Fiction?

General Store Publishing House

PRESS RELEASE:

DUEL

by David Mulholland

NEWLY DISCOVERED MANUSCRIPT SHEDS LIGHT ON FATAL DUEL

RENFREW, Ontario.  Author David Mulholland claims to have uncovered a manuscript describing events that led to the fatal duel between Robert Lyon and John Wilson that took place on June 13, 1833, in the town of Perth, Ontario, 80 kilometres west of Ottawa.

“I’m not at liberty to say who I obtained the manuscript from,” Mulholland says. “I returned it . . . I think! There are days when I wake up and wonder if it was a real document. Or did I just imagine it?”

The novel reproduces the 50-year-old memories of an arthritic blacksmith who says he influenced the fatal meeting between Lyon and Wilson. The blacksmith was still living in Perth in 1883. He wrote his report at the request of John Watson, who was a Professor of Moral and Mental Philosophy (Psychology) at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, from 1872 to 1924.

“John Watson was a real Professor at Queen’s,” Mulholland says. “Of that I’m certain. You can find references to him on the Internet.”

Mulholland says that although some sentences in the 126-year-old handwritten document were difficult to read, “it was in remarkably good condition, and, despite his arthritis, the author’s penmanship was legible. Photographer Denis Filion took photos of some of the writer’s report, which I’ve included in the book. So I guess it must have been real!”

To retain its authenticity, when Mulholland transcribed it, he kept the blacksmith’s sentence and paragraph structure and his 19th century spellings and capitalizations.

Note: Mr. Mulholland has indemnified GSPH against any claims to the truthfulness of his story.

Kill Me Twice - Exciting New Drama by Jerry Bayne

Readers, my review on this book is coming this week...So far, I can barely put it down without thinking about what's coming next!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New novel follows killer exacting revenge on American politicians

Kill Me Twice by Jerry Bayne tells the story of a killer with a vendetta against the U.S. government

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Kill Me Twice, a novel by Jerry Bayne, follows a trio of investigators as they work to stop an assassin who is targeting American political figures.

When a U.S. Senator is assassinated in his home, a complex web of deceit and conflicted loyalties is revealed. The action begins when Bradley Cardiff, convinced he has been wronged by the government, starts exacting revenge on those responsible. Boston police detective sergeant Mike Sams is summoned to Washington, D.C. to assist in the investigation of the crimes. When the final target is revealed, Sams must race against time to unravel the mystery and stop the killer.

Bayne admits to being disenchanted for sometime with the political scene in our nation’s capitol. “This novel is pure fiction and not based on any factual person or event, but I think we are all aware that behind the political curtains there have always been nefarious goings on and skeletons lurking in the shadowy corners of cobwebbed closets. The book illustrates that political ambition can steer men to the dark side of life, no matter what the consequences. In the same way, those who are wronged somehow find the will to stand up and fight against the odds, to find their own justice,” says Bayne.

Kill Me Twice is Bayne’s second novel involving the adventures of protagonist Mike Sams. His first, The Gatherer, introduced detective sergeant Sams and Bayne relishes the idea of a new book that allows the character to grow.

Kill Me Twice is available for sale online at Amazon.com, BookSurge.com, and through additional wholesale and retail channels worldwide.

The Art of Disappearing

by Ivy Pochoda
St. Martin’s Press

In her elegant debut novel, The Art of Disappearing, Ivy Pochoda asks how love can be real if so much else is an illusion.

Toby Warring seems too young and too attractive to be sending drinks to strange women in a small-town Nevada saloon, but that is exactly how he meets Mel Snow, a textile designer who is selling her wares throughout the country. In a brief but strangely familiar conversation, Toby shows Mel that he is a rare “real” magician – actually creating the wine he places in front of her – and explains that all he has ever wanted is to perform in Las Vegas. They marry the next day.

Soon they learn what – or rather, whom – they are each searching for in the desert. Years before, Toby performed the classic trick of making his lovely assistant disappear…except that this time, she didn’t come back. Racked with guilt, he wonders when and where she might turn up, if ever. Mel has been waiting for a miracle in the least likely of places. After the childhood loss of her brother, who was always more comfortable in water, Mel still expects him to appear somewhere in the dry Nevada land.

When Toby’s magic slips dangerously out of his control during his Las Vegas debut, he swears off magic and the pair flee the desert’s gaudy heat for the mysterious weather of Amsterdam. They meet an enclave of elderly magicians who, like Toby, could once manifest their illusions before their talents faded. But as they encourage Toby to return to his craft, Mel feels her marriage begin to unravel. The growing distance between the couple prompts her to ask, in such a malleable world, is love a constant, or is it susceptible to Toby’s magic?

Ivy Pochoda graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Classical Greek and English. After graduation, she spent time in the Netherlands, pursuing a career in professional squash. She was the Spring 2009 James Merrill House Writer-in-Residence. Currently she lives in Brooklyn, NY.

“…The Art of Disappearing is a terrific page turner…”

New Book Out: Inside Awake by Rome Sims

Inside Awake
By Rome Sims
Review Coming Soon!

Inside Awake is the thrilling, debut action adventure novel by Romé Sims. Taking readers on a whirlwind tour from Tanzania, to the Indian Ocean’s Sunda Trench, to Switzerland, and beyond, this action-packed taste of Jurassic Park combined with the best of the best governmental plots, will soon be followed by the conclusion of this great adventure in The Commission!

When the United Nations discovered a tragedy of unimaginable proportions, their early investigations uncover a massive loss of life around a lake in Africa; a government satellite links the incident to a radio signal off the coast of Sumatra and a group of scientists and military personnel are enlisted to find out what happened.

Dr. Sharon Geraldo, known as Geri to her friends, leads a research vessel across the Malacca Straight off the Sumatra Island. It had taken eleven years to build the vessel and it was equipped with every possible piece of innovative technology that could be needed to complete their mission: “Inside Awake.” As Geri and her team take their first maiden voyage in the area, Geri spots a large primitive statue and what looks to be some type of structure. That will be their first site visit!

But an unexplained phenomena happens – the team disappears. Actually, they’ve been taken back in time! The excitement during this visit highlights the novel!

During this same period, scientists are being sent all over the globe to investigate disease or unknown events causing death. In Tanzania, three people were burned to death quickly, in a fraction of a second! One of those scientists called back to Manhattan, and disclosed, “Test results from Lake Eyasi indicate positive...”

David Woodall is hired by a questionable organization to find out what really happened. But he is kept away from some parts of the building and from some of the artifacts that have been brought back from various sites. When he discovers that Geri, a friend for whom he cares greatly, has disappeared, he begins to use his own methods for getting what he needs, no matter how well it is being guarded!

Sims’ riveting novel is scientifically superb in describing the land areas, the historical perspectives and the various natural habitats where the scientists travel. Like all serial stories, Sims’ Inside Awake leaves you wanting to move right into his next novel! The Commission coming soon!
