It's Friday again...and I'm now in a Pensive Mood...

  • I wrote a little bit this week about the Bible story of the Talents. Do you remember what it's about?
  • I feel that God has given talents to doctors, scientists, nurses, and even President Biden and others who are daily placing themselves in danger to stop the spread of Covid...
  • And God, when prayers are sent up by those who had not taken advantage of the talents already provided to fight Covid, must wonder, "Why have you not acted to share in the wealth of the talents I've given to doctors, et.al., to meeting your needs in this time when an enemy has sent a deadly virus... Therefore, I will take the talent I gave you and add it to those of the many who are fighting so hard to save as many lives as possible on my behalf...
  • ~~~
  • Thoughts!?

 I started to read earlier, taking a break, but the new book was about a older woman, facing her death...I was almost immediately pulled back into my own life as I see the years fly by, while, sometimes, the days seem so long...

It's quiet now. My caretaker was here to mow. He has become a friend, who also takes out my garbage as often as he is here...Now, I can feel his frustration, as he stayed away from me, explaining that his sister and other family members have contracted Covid. Thankfully, it is not the Delta strain. This is the first I've seen him in over a week, so it was good to see him even though I didn't have a friend to share a few words with...

He's also been my driver and helper with groceries. But he's had to make adjustments to his schedule to deal with his heavy lawn care jobs as well as the issues for his home and family. I knew it was coming, but have no alternatives to my own needs at this time...

Except, that, this morning, I received my second large delivery order from Walmart through their new program. I had taken the initiative to accept the test trial for it and found myself caught within the "mess" of a new system being implemented without total debugging and testing... I have to chuckle because it reminded me of the "mess" Biden is now dealing with in Afghanistan.  Sure, it, too, is a mess... After all, Trump had signed a deal with having Americans out of Afghan by May and so Biden had early announced that they would be leaving. I was happy and so were many Americans. Now I wonder what Trump and the Taliban leaders said.  I've learned that deals were being made for months... Who really knows... What we do know is that the leader of Afghanistan and its military swiftly left. Now, as iis often the case, the public immediately started to complain when the "mess" started. Yes, Biden is taking responsibility... At least this leader is accepting responsibility and working hard to deal with this along with the other major issues he inherited.

This past week, I also had been active... It was to my benefit to have Walmart succeed--otherwise, I didn't know how I would get my food and other supplies. So, like Biden, I recognized the mess after trying to place my first order... It went fairly well, even though the frozen dinners were soggy... So, I've been spending a lot of time on studying the Walmart system, working with it, and submitting suggestions or problems I've found. You see, after I placed my first order, I placed another one...and it disappeared, along with an e-mail order that had been sent as part of their new pickup-delivery... So during that period, I lost hours of food selection as I had also lost a complete order. Yeah, like me and others, including Biden, I was frustrated...and, in my opinion, Biden is dealing with it well, given all the crap that is happening these days...

So, after several days, I notified a contact at Walmart and shared that the improvements to the computer system was 100%... I offered a few more suggestions about procedure...then I felt like I was part of the process when I received my full order this morning and filled my freezer and refrigerator...dinners, yogurt, cereal...all simple easy-to-fix things that I eat as a single person, now somewhat disabled...

Unfortunately, federal laws prevents delivery of my meds...so I have not been able to pick up what is waiting after my last doctor visit... I did check with Walmart about delivery by mail, but the rep was honest and pointed out the potential problems of using that method... In the meantime, I'm grateful that the meds were not those that were necessary to maintain, for instance, my blood pressure, etc.

What has happened is that I find I have had to become more self-dependent than I have ever been before...

Right now, I'm not able to drive and it seems everything I need to do requires visits to this place or that... I got new glasses, but am still not totally satisfactory, even though I had gone in to have them checked twice...more frustration, of course. I cancelled the two other tests they wanted me to have... Also had to tell my primary physician that I couldn't come back to talk more because I didn't have a driver...

Even now as I write, I am beginning to have pain as I am sitting. For those who haven't heard, I learned that my left hip is deteriorating. My new primary doctor mentioned it on my first visit when I talked about the auto accident I had in March last year. When she indicated what my hip looked like, I was shocked...I had never been told before--yes, you guessed it, I had become frustrated with my last doctor's office and had moved because I knew I needed a good doctor's support and wasn't getting it.

Fortunately, I had an excellent doctor for my surgery to remove a brain tumor. At that time, he also order physical therapy to ensure I could regain balance and walking skills. If I had only that issue--brain surgery--I probably would have been fine. But learning about my hip deterioration set off an entirely new issue, in most ways, more difficult to deal with than surgery of the brain.

Right now, I am unable to walk without a walker...Imagine not being able to even go to the bathroom without a walker to ensure that your ankle, your knee, your lower leg, or your hip will not give out as you take a step and cause a fall. I am fine otherwise, but right now and for the last few months, I have been trying to get approval for somebody to help me with driving, and other daily activities. Bureaucracy is alive and well...

And I have encountered many people who do not do the job to meet the needs of me, the customer... Contrary to how I was able to work with Walmart to get my needs attended to, I find I keep being referred from one place or another, or actually firing individuals who were doing more harm to me (mentally and emotionally) than helping...

You know, God gave me over 70 years of relatively good health and I am so grateful. I wonder, sometimes, if he placed me in these situations to reveal and, perhaps, commiserate with others who are struggling to survive within the world we live in today if only by reading about another's experiences...

My doctor asked me recently when I confessed being depressed, whether or not I had considered suicide... My resounding "No" was surely spoken through me from the Holy Spirit that dwells within me... Am I as strong as Job in facing all these issues? Afraid Not! But I don't need to be... God loves me as I am and cares for me, even if my day is so bad that I don't even say good morning to Him... He realizes my pain... And, if I should feel better...but can only get out a few words, it is normally these:

You know, I don't profess to understand what is happening in today's world, but I know He doesn't mind my seeking and asking questions... Sometimes His word comes into my mind to, maybe, even share with others. Sometimes He just makes me wait...and wonder...

But I know He Loves Me. And, even if I no longer sing in public as this elderly lady and her family does...I'll still be singing in my mind:

And if you are feeling old or alone...or like Mary Eddy, when I used to sing this song as a duet when we sang on a local radio station, with Rev. Joe Jordan, in Morgantown, W.V., when her son had died, we knew that, somewhere, somebody was listening who the song had been sent to, especially in response to their pain or fears... So, if the pain and suffering...and the shock of death has toughed you because of one issue or another...just say the words..."Lord, help me today, show me the way...one day at a time!"

God Bless
Glenda

Today...something totally off the wall...

Hey everybody, I was online and the phone with Windows reps last night with computer issues so lost reading time...

At the same time, I've had a friend helping me with cabin cleaning and he needs to do a few things in the office I've created... and while I've been going through things, I found something that I had started...

Will you help me finish it?

This is either a poem...or I was thinking, really a song...
What do you think first? And then what can I do to get started again to finish...it's been so long!

Unnamed as of Yet

Alone in the dark, I find a melody
Alone in the dark, I find the words to sing
Alone in the dark, the Son's music surrounds me

Chorus
He is my song. He is my melody
I sing to you, But it's His words you hear...
His love
My highest joy. His love is [why or what] I sing
He fills me up...

Here in His House, His Spirit Sings to me
Here in His House, we sing His melody
A love so deep, He sings Inside of Me...
That it bursts forth

Then sings my soul, how good You are to me

The song appears in deep or sorrowful pain

Well, that's all she wrote!
Is it worth working on it?
Can you help me fix it?
Any poets or songwriters out there?

Note: I know that I was working on this when I was in a period of deep depression and I haven't looked at it for years...
Won't you help me write it?

Write to me or leave comments...
Let's see if we can finish this together!
I know the rhythm is off, since this was just a first draft.
Added this to get you thinking of Him!
Help!

Wingless Flight by Adolfo Caso; Response by Moi...A Bit of Poetry to Brighten Your Day...

Wingless Flight

By Adolph Adolfo Caso

If you had wings
I could not teach you
How to fly,
Or teach you how to love-
Even if one is in love
And the other is not.
Birds soaring into the sky
On wings spread wide
Never reach heaven
No matter how hard they try.

Even eagles, soaring above,
Can only fly
Within the boundaries
Of a horizon
That is both fixed
And pre-determined.
But,
When two people fall in love,
Heaven
Mysteriously
Comes down to them,
And teaching them how to love
Continues to become
Useless and unnecessary,
Because,
Love
Cannot be taught
As a subject

Wingless flights--
Not possible to birds,
Always abound
Within two people
Who are really in love--
With one another!

My heart is like this stone-cold eagle
Trying to fly, but held to the earth
In flight, yet not finding the love that moves
A Heart frozen and bound...

Love Swans glide by expressingg
that for which they were destined
But was I destined to be alone...
Never feeling that love about which songs are sun?

I had always sang...

"When I fall in love it will be forever..."
Was it you or I that didn't want
that togetherness for eternity?

Or did I just move on ahead
"And Never fell in love at all..."
Still I find myself looking toward heaven
Finally realizing I'm looking in the wrong direction...

Forgive me Adolfo, I had to get a little fun out of all your loving...

This Reviewer's Personal Response to The First To Say No...

ER (TV series)
ER (TV series) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
This is not a review and in no way should reflect anything I've already said about the book, The First To Say No...A Reviewer learns to be objective and not allow personal feelings to words written by another to influence their review, negatively...or that, in my opinion, should be the case...I know I sure try to write by that principle.

~~~
You know, I've been thinking more lately about why some books mean more to me personally. I normally enjoy about 99% of the books I read (and if a book falls within that 1%, I generally don't read it past the first 50 pages, sometimes, now even that many)... My time; my decision as to how to spend it during my later years...
But then, there are still some books that affect me more, because I find something in it relating to my life. Do you read in the same way?
Dr. Anderson obviously has a great love for his profession and for the many individuals who have dedicated their lives to medicine and the ER in particular. Honestly, I would not work for any company that would allow employees to be "manhandled" in any way and not allow them to file criminal charges when appropriate. As one of his medical readers said--it is indeed telling a dirty little secret...
The reason it became personal to me, though, was because of the rage that comes to me because of those supervisors, bureaucrats, CEO's--whatever you want to call them, who have no feelings of empathy or sympathy for their employees and who run rampant in corporate/business America these days...
I had an even more violent reaction, because of the Penn State scandal still going on...Having worked at a university, I had met and become friends with some of the facilities staff there and had attended at least one conference on campus. Unlike others, although some may disagree and I might also if I knew the facts, I don't think Paterno was quite so guilty as the rest...You see, I know that final decisions always are made at higher layers than a director, even one who was so respected and known across the country...It saddens me that Paterno's reputation is now forever tarnished...no matter if, hypothetically, he fought with his supervisors to do something and was overruled... Being fired is everybody's worst fear, no matter what position you hold...
As mine was...
Can you image a nurse, having just been raped, perhaps held down in an emergency room by a drugged out maniac, his strong hand covering her mouth and the other hand plus his body holding her down as he does anything his "visions" create... (And, in the U.S. that druggie could be the son of a powerful, wealth individual who will buy his son out of any problems his actions causes.)
And then be told that nothing can be done because he was receiving medical treatment at the time...
Get real folks! No way should anybody be forced to suck it up for their job! But, tell me honestly, haven't you heard of personal stories from friends, neighbors or relatives where something that has happened at work caused the individual to lose his/her job...I heard a new story as recently as Monday!
Because there are other types of abuse, other than physical... that are not so readily apparent...
It comes from organizational structures that hire people who make decisions based upon the bottom line...
It comes from leaders who have no concerns about what their decisions result in, as it relates to the individuals at that company...
It comes from a political structure that pits political parties against each other, then demands that the selected individuals clean up corruption and mistakes that have been made for hundreds of years within a term of office...
It comes from politicians who make "vested interest" the primary reason for making decisions rather than for the good of the general public...
It comes from supervisors, etc., who make decisions based upon personal power choices rather than having taken time to gather information through investigation, which, when made, results in thousands and millions of manpower loss due to such simple decisions.
It comes from layoffs or other financial choices, or even power choices, which improve the bottom line, without regard that the remaining employees will be overburdened by work and move toward job burnout...
Obviously, I could go on...
A nation who allows criminals to hurt, abuse, threaten, or even murder employees during their work hours and forces it to be covered up...is a nation moving toward the end of its life... Because there are also more ways of killing those employees than just physically... Consider the physical, mental, and emotional damage done to people that you've personally talked to and let me know if you agree or disagree with my thoughts...
Just my personal opinion of course...
Responsive Poetry - Poet Thomas Kemp...and Moi!
I cannot sleep tonight
And the day went on forever.
When I first stopped today it was only noon
I was hoping my daydreams would surrender by then
Shamelessly I spent the entire morning hours with you
Was I unbearable to be with?
Did you enjoy breakfast and coffee in bed?
I had to have bored you by dinner time…
Your perfume still on my fingertips each time I took a bite.
The music from the movie playing was an inauguration for my desires.
So I ask...When will you be home?
Thomas Kemp/poet
I will be home each time you call
Your words always touch me, make me want
But now I only think of you,
Just every other day...
You see, there must be trust
Before love lives forever...
I thought you loved me and then I knew
Your words are only memories
Of someone's else's love...
That I only wished were mine...
Responsive Poetry: Grits!?! Del Cano and Moi!
Love My Grits
Grits, they say with a start
as if they are a foreign treat
I love to have them with other food
in deeming them very good to eat.
Could care less when they react
like when they turn up their nose
Seems they never gave them a chance
but I can only guess or suppose.
I like grits as a side dish
often add a few chunks of cheese
and no matter what they have to say
they go down slow and with such ease.
You go a head and laugh
I'll enjoy my grits to a tee
whenever you refuse to a new taste
imagine grits are a pleasure to me.
Del Cano April 20, 2009
Grits and Bear 'em!
I well remember that first time
Grits were placed there in my face
It was eggs over easy I liked fine
But these eggs set in my place?!
Eggs over easy to my way of thinkin'
Was eggs turned over keeping the yellow soft
But these eggs were sliming and slinkin'
O'er half my plate, running buff!
Movin' toward what looked to me
Thrown up milk from one of my kitties
It merged with the slimy runny eggs
Whole plate was white, was this just a tease?
Taking a chance I peeked at my sis
But she was talking and eating fine
Scrambled eggs and toast, heavenly bliss
All I could wish, that plate was mine!
Looked across the table, friend noticed me
Do you know what that is, I was asked.
Shaking my "no" begging her "please?"
"Why that there's grits, dear, corn that's smashed!"
In a public restaurant, my Mom would' ve said "eat"
But with those runny eggs and rambling corn
Not getting sick would be my great feat!
I sat back on my chair, hungry, forlorn...
Just then our waitress must have saw my face
"Not done 'nuf, honey? No grits for you today?"
Almost in tears, I nodded with grace
"Scramble them please, and grits? No Way!"
Thanks so much for all who shared their poetry. When Spencer sent me this one, I just knew I had my own story on grits to tell! I was my sister's "model" when she took her test for beauty school. We were having breakfast on the first day...all her friends who were going to be tested and their models. There were about ten sitting around a big table and I was the youngest. I can still remember my feelings when I had that plate set in front of me. I knew I shouldn't make a fuss, and the school was paying for our meal so I felt I should eat it...
Well, Spencer, seeing those running grits invading those slimy runny eggs...put me off grits...for life! And I think of that time every time my sister, Dee, and I go out to eat breakfast and she orders...grits... Not for me, Please!
Poets, I welcome poetry throughout the year...so please feel free to share with me any time!
Responsive Poetry - Thomas Kemp & Glenda Bixler
Remember Me
The house was as cold as the night air.
Snow had been falling for as long as we had been lying
Next to each other we were a pair, a couple of lovers.
We were fit for any story about love.
As you brush the snow from my face with your long hair,
I felt your fingers wipe my tears.
Does passion have a sister or a mother
As lovely as you had become to me?
Where I was cold you were hot and where I was hot you were…
Lost in the darkness of the Moonless hours
Trying to cover your nakedness, worrying about the time
I made just one mistake, telling you to hurry.
Be safe now, and hurry again to my face,
hurry and come to me
Forgive my loud sounds; my rushing kisses…
please, remember me.
I Remember...
My bedroom is never warm during winter months
sitting against the hillside, catching the blowing winds
Sleeping alone requires quilts, covers tightly wound 'bout me
How I wish you were here to provide your heat...
I remember the first time we met I'd worn
a sexy coat to look alluring for you
You pulled out one of your own for me to wear to tour
But when I left you said I was lovely and lightly kissed me
So, now, even when we are apart I remember
your voice, low, telling me your stories, your words
You claimed I fell in love with your voice;
perhaps I did, but so what? I wanted to...
The next time, you touched me as I stood
there on the patio, I wanted more, even then
Even though years go by
I remember all those times, those touches
I shall always remember you...
with burning warmth that simmers
and with love...
In the Silence . . .
Silence is calling me...
I need and long to hear it once again
For only in Silence am I truly free
Free to hear, free to mend...
For the noise of life becomes too much...
And it seems that I might break
I want to scream to others, Hush!
There’s not much more I can take!
In the silence of my bed alone,
Not even God will speak...
In the silence of the night I roam
In its arms the peace I seek...
Then in the quiet I’m cradled and warm
And a song comes gentle to my ear
For in the silence is when I hear my Lord,
“Come, my child, there’s nothing to fear...”
“Jesus loves the little children,”
Then...”Jesus loves me, this I know”...
And, “What a Friend...”
“For the Bible tells me so...”
In the silence as the new day begins,
Cats purring, rain, and cock-a-doodle-doo
Listening only for the sounds He sends...
“Be not dismayed,”
today, I’ll “take care of you...”
--Glenda
