I find for this book, I was overwhelmed with what I was reading. With nearly 40 years of working in various positions, most of which were at a land-grant university in administration, I was appalled at what Michael Lewis was sharing. Working under at least three university presidents and many individual second in command of various parts of the institution, I am totally family with an organizational structure that works routinely to keep an organization running through any type of changes...

Having avidly watched what was happening under Trump, on national television and other media reports, I thought I had a fairly decent handle on what was really happening. The depth of what had happened, however, was so so much more...

Did you know that there is supposed to be a transition team put into place whenever a governmental administration leader is replaced? Chris Christie had brought this up during the campaign, noting that it was mandatory. Nobody had even considered this at that time. At that point, Christie volunteered to head up that transition team...moved forward and, in a very short time, had a thriving team of 100 or so getting ready for the new president's administrative activities... Money had been established for this purpose...Trump was known to have criticized that that money was his and should not be used in this way..

On the second day after the Inauguration, Trump fired Christie and the entire transition team... So, well before he had even gotten started, Trump had fired over 100 individuals who were charged with working through the turnover of the government departments to a new administrator.

As with any well-run institution, each of the governmental divisions had worked throughout the previous year to create and assemble briefing reports and exhibits for introducing past, present and future activities in which they were involved. Some even arranged refreshments to host whoever would be showing up to represent the new administration. Nobody came...

And in the midst of this reality, a writer, Michael Lewis, walked into three major Departments of the Government, and started talking and asking them questions...What he learned became his latest book, Fifth Risk

I should quickly point out that, even without the need for a transition team, readers will be learning, perhaps as much as I did, about the various mostly unknown responsibilities for each of three Departments--Agriculture, Commerce, and Energy.

Lewis begins to talk to the people. He names each individual and shares their story. This is not fake news. If anybody wanted to, they could easily confirm what has been shared in this book. Instead of attempting to provide an overview of the major sets of data and information about each of these units, I, instead, will just highlight a few mind-blowing acts performed by the Trump staff when they actually got around to visiting the Departments: 

• The Federal Government collects and provides free weather and climate data on their sites. Since the transition, all of this data has been deleted for free use. Reason...Accuweather is being paid for weather information and does not want to have it provided free...  Staffers in the U.S. Senate charged with vetting Myers’s nomination estimated that AccuWeather had roughly $100 million a year in revenue, and that it came mainly from selling ads on its website and selling weather forecasts to companies and governments willing to pay for them. Some weather geeks had recently discovered that the company had been selling the locations of people using its app, even when these individuals had declined to give AccuWeather permission to do this. At any rate, at his U.S. Senate hearings, Barry Myers estimated his AccuWeather shares to be worth roughly $57 million. At first glance, the nomination made sense: a person deeply involved in weather forecasting was going to take over an agency that devoted most of its resources to understanding the weather. At second glance, both Barry Myers and AccuWeather were deeply inappropriate. For a start, Barry Myers wasn’t a meteorologist or a scientist of any sort. He was a lawyer. “I was originally enrolled in meteorology as an undergraduate,” he told the Wall Street Journal back in 2014. “I then dropped out of school because I was a horrible student. I was never interested in learning, which I look at now as sort of funny.” Then there was AccuWeather. It had started out making its money by repackaging and selling National Weather Service information...

Pause a moment to consider the audacity of that maneuver. A private company whose weather predictions were totally dependent on the billions of dollars spent by the U.S. taxpayer to gather the data necessary for those predictions, and on decades of intellectual weather work sponsored by the U.S. taxpayer, and on international data-sharing treaties made on behalf of the U.S. taxpayer, and on the very forecasts that the National Weather Service generated, was, in effect, trying to force the U.S. taxpayer to pay all over again for what the National Weather Service might be able to tell him or her for free.

• We are all worried about the intrusion into our voting activities, however, did you know that there are already attempts at more dangerous actions. In 2016 the DOE counted half a million cyber-intrusions into various parts of the U.S. electrical grid. “It’s one thing to put your head in the sand for climate change—it’s like mañana,” says Ali Zaidi, who served in the White House as Obama’s senior adviser on energy policy. “This is here and now. We actually don’t have a transformer reserve. They’re like these million-dollar things. Seventeen transformers getting shot up in California is not like,” Oh, we’ll just fix the problem.’ Our electric-grid assets are growing vulnerable.”

• The opioid crisis was a case in point. The data scientists in the Department of Health and Human Services had opened up the Medicaid and Medicare data, which held information about prescription drugs. Journalists at ProPublica had combed through it and discovered odd concentrations of opioid prescriptions. “We would never have figured out that there was an opioid crisis without the data,” said DJ.

• After Trump took office, DJ Patil watched with wonder as the data disappeared across the federal government. Both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior removed from their websites the links to climate change data. The USDA removed the inspection reports

• Everyone is focused on how data is a weapon. Actually, if we don’t have data, we’re screwed.” His memos were never read, DJ suspects. At any rate, he’s never heard a peep about them. And he came to see there was nothing arbitrary or capricious about the Trump administration’s attitude toward public data. Under each act of data suppression usually lay a narrow commercial motive: a gun lobbyist, a coal company, a poultry company. “The NOAA webpage used to have a link to weather forecasts,” he said. “It was highly, popular. I saw it had been buried. And I asked: Now, why would they bury that?” Then he realized: the man Trump nominated to run NOAA thought that people who wanted a weather forecast should have to pay him for it. There was a rift in American life that was now coursing through American government. It wasn’t between Democrats and Republicans. It was between the people who were in it for the mission, and the people who were in it for the money.

The variety and diverse ways in which our basic government activities has been changed is unbelievable and, in my opinion, totally unacceptable. Hopefully, those officials who were asked to leave in some way created safeguards against losing so much precious information and money dedicated for specific needs. If not, what this administration has done to our government will never be recoverable...

The risks that have been identified may already have been acted upon without any knowledge of Congress and the people. The only way they will find out is when they will no longer be able to access the services once available...without charge... Somewhere, some business has stolen that data and is now making millions off of what our taxes have paid for.

I thought Trump was a criminal working to gain for his own...now we know that companies of all kinds have supported this criminal, so that, they too, make millions, without having done any of the basic work to provide it.

Interestingly, for many years I was responsible for gathering, maintaining, and reporting data to the federal government about facilities and its utilization. It was the basis for acquiring federal funds for university programs, including medical programs. Data-gathering and maintenance is an ongoing activity for which we were required to be audited and tracked for accuracy. Somewhere that data would have been stored for use by the government and various agencies doing research... Years of my personal work may be gone...

This entire book affects all Americans. You will be learning more about your government than you may have known before...but you may be learning about it as it disintegrates and disappears...

I have not hidden my opinion about this administration, but not until this book was I devastated, not realizing what has really been happening in and to those programs that have served our people so well in the past... Climate Control? Is the data lost to all? Agriculture and Forestry basic information and preservation programs? Service programs to help all of us live, such as basic data about opoids, economic basic data...  It's worse than I ever imagined...

And, it turns out, Trump is smarter than we thought...he's doing exactly what is needed to make millionaires into billionaires... Only you can imagine what has already occurred that affects you directly. Please read this book and share this article...It's more important than you may ever know...Sad to say...

Everything is comprised of energy. Everything is vibration. All vibration is the result of energy in motion. Energy is held together to create matter. Matter is energy condensed to a slow vibration. There is one underlying field of energy, the Zero Point Field, that pervades everything, thereby giving purpose and unity to our world.

Everything in the universe has a unique vibrational energy. Every object, every being, every thought, every action, every psychological mood; in short, energy equals vibration. Energy and vibration are what life is all about.

Most people are enslaved by their thoughts, thereby creating by default (creation by way of an unconscious means). It simply does not occur to them that they can free themselves from the chatter of the mind.

Everyday life, for the multitude, seems to be fraught with worry, tension, anxiety and fear. Thoughts arise in one’s mind that serve to reflect these outer feelings. There can be no peace of mind, no stillness, when one is engulfed by such negativity, and, yet, inner peace is within reach of each and every individual.

The battlefield of the mind is merely the war that plays out between dark (ego) and light (mindfulness), a battle that everyone must conquer. Such is the journey towards self-realization, a journey in consciousness, a journey in metamorphosis, the quest for self-transformation, the journey of an observer, the journey to freedom. Such is the evolution of man.

The world, then, becomes a projection, an extension, if you will, of our own mind as well as our thought processes. The thoughts we think result in what we see. We can choose, therefore, to see an abominable, doom and gloom world or we can choose to see a wondrous, beautiful and magnificent world.

The war we are fighting is an internal one where the battlefield is our own mind and the emotions we feel, live, express, become the ammunition that is fired.

Everywhere we turn in the media, we are being bombarded with fear by way of video clips, audio clips and text. There are times when getting past this numbing fear feels like a complete impossibility. I know because I was once there, manipulated and controlled by my fears and anxieties. This becomes the distraction, you see; the means with which to keep you embroiled in fear.

The first monumental step becomes the realization that this is indeed the reality, the power mongers wanting to keep everyone frozen in a perpetual state of fear. It is only when an individual has arrived at this cognizance, that he/she can then begin to release themselves from the deadly stronghold of the illusion that one is powerless.

As stated before, the world that you see and experience is naught but a reflection of your own mind as well as the mind of the collective; hence, if you are to change what you see and experience, you must change what you think, feel and live on a day to day basis. It is imperative that you learn to live in alignment with your heart. This rising of your personal vibration will also add to the enhanced vibration of the whole, of the collective, of Mother Earth.

In continuing to place our focus and attention on the problems of the world, thereby adding to the negative collective viewpoint, we simply get more of the same. The question you must ask of yourselves is – is this what I want?

You have the power to experience and live your life the way that you want to see it. Everyone has the same choice.

Once you have experienced living in alignment with the heart, which is an increased sense of unity consciousness, you understand that duality no longer exists, for you have been able to transcend the illusion.

You are the revolution; a revolution whereby you must re-learn to think for yourself by taking your power back.

When you send out negative thoughts and emotions, not only do they affect yourself on an immediate and personal level, but they also affect the collective mind, the mind of the whole. Having shared this, all are responsible for current planetary disasters, myself included. It is imperative that you begin to understand the gravity of this situation, for only then can you begin to make the changes that are necessary, that are conducive, that are pertinent.

Having accepted the fact that all are responsible, each must then begin to take ownership and responsibility for having contributed to the situation(s) at hand. Step away from the poor me attitude, humbly embracing the power that exists within. Energy always flows to where one places their attention.

You learn to become pro-active by controlling your thoughts and emotions. Speaking from the heart, feeling from the heart, living from the heart, is the means through which you can do so.

One’s focus and attention needs to be placed on living from a heart-based consciousness as opposed to an ego-dominated consciousness. One must learn to protect their thoughts from fear and guilt so that they are better able to remain focused on love, compassion, nonjudgment; knowing that this is the way.

Stop watching the news on television. Stop reading the newspapers. Concentrate, instead, on what you want, and what you want to be, as opposed to its negative counterpart. Take the time to delve within. Meditate. Focus on choosing love, for you will always find refuge within your sacred temple.

When you come to the realization that you are a spiritual being having a human experience, in order to experience yourself fully, your vibration shifts and begins to rise to a higher state of consciousness.

The biggest thing we are here to do is work on our individual selves. If we can remain positive, thereby no longer contributing to the collective negativity, we will have succeeded at something so monumental, so powerful, so necessary, that others, upon witnessing our example, will be able to follow suit, should that be their choice.

You must reclaim your power, a power that has always been yours but one that you elected to give away, a power that involves discipline of the mind and an earnest desire to live in alignment with Source.

Yes, you could read R. B. Holbrook’s second book, Shadows of Fate, in the Oracles’s Legacy Trilogy as a stand-alone novel. After all, it’s nearly 500 pages of action-packed supernatural adventure! But why would you want to? Check out my review of the first in the Trilogy, Children of Sun, and begin right from the beginning! I know you will be glad you did! Remember to use the Glossary to understand the civilization into which you will enter for this short time.

Bones, a young boy, was the reason Ollie had died. She allowed her energy to be transferred, much as you would blood, to keep him alive. She knew that Bones had a special role to play in the future!

Ollie had been brought back to life when she had died as a small child. Jamili, her father had used his energy at that time. This time, however, she had been dead for four days and the House of Moon being known as Demon’s Wrath had pulled her back from death. He wanted her as his own and for many reasons.

But first he had to break her to his will...

Violence was part of those in the Structure, but readers should be aware that what happens to Ollie will be difficult to read. This book has violent content and parental guidance should be used. But if you enjoy following the lives of powerful, fascinating, sexy women, picture one who has the capability to use energy as a tool and the guts to use it, and you’ll know that Ollie fought to give as good as she received, considering the torture she was forced to bear! No matter how much, each of her brothers and sisters were experiencing problems resulting from Ollie no longer being there to support them.

Few in Ollie’s family knew that she was alive. But many of them, especially Vlad who was able to track her bloodline and Cee who was a healer, began to have dreams and/or could feel her energy, each feeling that they were only suffering from their personal loss. And in the Moon complex where she was held captive, only one woman, a healer, was assigned to help her through her days of beatings and resulting anger and pain.

Ollie’s twin brother had changed the most since her death. Mainly he had also learned what his future role would be. Now, as Ollie strives to regain her strength and escape, the rest of her family and loved ones were also looking toward a dangerous future that was being foretold.

But none of them knew at that time that the danger would be Ollie...

Science Fiction? Yes but once you enter the Structure you will become spellbound, flinching when beams of energy are used, waiting breathlessly while buildings crash down, trees are uprooted and thrown as spears, walls are destroyed and one member of the Structure strikes down another and another!

For imaginative genius, I’ve not read anything like Oracle’s Legacy: Shadows of Fate by R. B. Holbrook!

It takes awhile to create the story of a civilization that exists alongside humans, without their having any knowledge of those within its “Structure.” That said, as you begin to read the science fiction trilogy, Oracle’s Legacy, by R. B. Holbrook, take the extra time to read or refer to the Glossary at the front of the book and get to know a little about this civilization. Once you have a fairly basic understanding... start reading and enjoy!

First in the trilogy is Oracle’s Legacy: Children of Sun. The Oracle, who is the leader and most powerful of the structure is of the House of Sun. She is very old and close to death. Already, there are those from other Houses who are gearing up for proposing that the next Oracle be selected from their respective House! An election? Well, not quite. Many of those proposed will be assassinated before they have a chance to be selected!

The structure is made up of seven houses that seek enlightenment by attempting to understand the nature of energy. The type of energy that it uses characterizes each of the houses. For example, the House of Blade embodies physical energy and uses much of it for military purposes, while the House of Stone embodies environmental energy. Many of Stone are engineers, architects or those who work in agriculture.

Although there are only 8 million people in the Structure living amongst the billions of humans, each one is born with certain gifts—gifts that allow them to use or manipulate energy in some particular way and identifies their respective house. Each of the entities strive to reach various levels of enlightenment which requires understanding the balance between all things and how they are connected. As each individual matures, they develop what is called a “seal” that expands across their skin surface, which reveals the type of power they use.

Ollie is the first main character readers will meet. She works under Geo, the oldest brother of a family of the House of Sun. Many have been brought into the home and they become family; specifically they are under the protection of the family and call the head of the home Mama. Many of the children there have the same father, but not all children are of the House of Sun.

Ollie was brought into the home to save her life. In fact, she had died from the abuse she suffered as a child, but was brought back to life. Her twin brother Ellis was traumatized by having Ollie chosen by a sexual predator and now is totally devoted to protecting his sister as much as she is willing to allow. For Ollie has developed into a much-feared, but much-loved woman (depending upon whether she’s protecting you or hunting you)!

This review provides an overview of the book; however, once you are into the story, the characters are wonderfully unique and full of surprises to delight readers. Imagine telepathy, extraordinary brilliance, telekinetics, those who can heal using energy, those who can see in the past, present or future.

Then consider the range of actions that could occur as these supernatural individuals strive to win the top position when a new oracle is named! Exciting action like none other awaits you in R. B. Holbrook’s Oracle’s Legacy: Children of Sun! Enter this surreality, only if you dare! If you love Science Fiction, this just may be a must-read for you!
