Jesus was Not a White Man - So Why Do The White Supremacists Insist on Hate, Prejudice and Violence? "The Church Has No Color!" Celebrating Juneteenth!

The Church Has No Color!

It is hard not to be thinking about exactly what your basic beliefs entail these days, isn't it? Prior to the January 6th Insurrection, we routinely heard about the connection between the evangelical christians and the republican party/Trump. That seems to have changed recently? Could it be that somewhere along the line, the recognition of the violence incited--the hate and prejudice incited--by this man who had promised them a number of things... and left him alone to do the horrendous damage upon America that he did!

We are finding out more and more each day as the hearings on the Insurrection are being held and available on news stations across the world. We have seen the individual life stories of damage, of threats of harm or death made by or in this man's name... The President invited us here! We're here because Trump notified us of the time and location, telling us it was going to be "Wild!"

Illustrating its impact was shown just yesterday while the stories of the three generations of the Moss family were shared! The grandmother had so instilled the recognition when those who were Black were now allowed to vote that the child and grandchild became involved in the activities necessary to ensure the routine voting act was carried through... The grandchild even became a permanent employee in responding to those seeking information... That is, until Trump accused them publicly and the routine threats from white supporters of Trump took up their forked tongues to condemn the fact that they were "surely" doing something wrong if they showed no support in getting Trump reelected! It's a sad story, one that is illustrative of the many individuals who were forced into considering falsifying their work just because a president asked them to!

The fact that Trump is white...and that he was seen as the representative of all those who hate anybody who isn't, makes us all sit up and think! How could this man ever have been elected in the first place? Simple: He lies...and lies...and lies... so convincingly that for some, he was believed--perhaps because he was spewing the hateful vitriol that many seem to harbor, sadly.

Plus the fact that they apparently made a deal with the devil... He promised and fulfilled the appointment of conservative judges, which has brought about the evolution of so Many MORE HATEFUL OUTCOMES  THAN EVER COULD HAVE BEEN IMAGINED. All those things that had evolved to change limitations of governmental prejudice which were removed by the Constitution when it proclaimed that all should be treated equally...had slowly came about... Had it gone too far, I wondered? Yet, the millions that were no longer ostracized began to be legally able to live as others live. Could this be wrong?

So, as I always do when confused, I started looking for more information.

For centuries, the most common image of Jesus Christ, at least in Western cultures, has been that of a bearded, fair-skinned man with long, wavy, light brown or blond hair and (often) blue eyes. But the Bible doesn’t describe Jesus physically, and all the evidence we do have indicates he probably looked very different from how he has long been portrayed.

What Does the Bible Say?

The Bible offers few clues about Christ’s physical appearance. Most of what we know about Jesus comes from the first four books of the New Testament, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. According to the Gospels, Jesus was a Jewish man born in Bethlehem and raised in the town of Nazareth, in Galilee (formerly Palestine, now northern Israel) during the first century A.D.

We know Jesus was about 30 years old when he began his ministry (Luke 3:23), but the Bible tells us virtually nothing about what he looked like―except that he didn’t stand out in any particular way. When Jesus was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane before the Crucifixion (Matthew 26:47-56) Judas Iscariot had to point Jesus out to his soldiers among the disciples―presumably because they all appeared similar to one another.

Consider watching: Jesus: His Life in HISTORY Vault

Jesus-Getty-525488651

Most of us realize that Jesus was a Jew and grew up in the Jewish faith.
I found an interesting article about the consideration of whether those who are Jewish are "white..."

Jeremy Shere: On the evening of August 11th, 2017, hundreds of white nationalist neo-Nazis and others associated with the far right gathered in Charlottesville, Virginia, to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee from a local park. Carrying flags with Nazi and Confederate symbols and brandishing torches, the protesters marched toward the park, chanting. [Sound of people chanting]

In case it's hard to make out, the marchers are chanting, “Jews will not replace us.” Now, like most people you were probably horrified by this brazen display of bigotry, antisemitism, and racial hatred. But for American Jews — at least for those born after World War II — the scene in Charlottesville was also surreal, as though a Nazi rally from an old black-and-white newsreel had sprung to life in full color in the present. Jews will not replace us? Who exactly is the “us”?

Eric Goldstein: The “us” is obviously some definition of white society that doesn't include the Jews...

So, I just have to ask...just who ARE those who choose hate toward anybody who is not like Trump--full of prejudice, bigotry, and violence... Where does it come from?

Certainly not from those Caucasians like me who not only accept Jesus as our Savior and the God of Love for all... Certainly not those who are Black and have suffered both in the past and as recently as during this fiasco thrown by Trump and his followers who lied about three Black women who chose to give their time celebrating the time when Blacks were first given the right to vote! And certainly not the Jewish people who are scorned by many who "choose" to hate by ethnic group. It certainly is not the Indigenous people, who are separated and left to try to make a living in whatever way they can... It certainly is not those who have immigrated into America and have become Americans who fight and have fought for our country...

...For many scholars, Revelation 1:14-15 offers a clue that Jesus's skin was a darker hue and that his hair was woolly in texture. The hairs of his head, it says, "were white as white wool, white as snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace.”

“We don't know what [Jesus] looked like, but if all of the things that we do know about him are true, he was a Palestinian Jewish man living in Galilee in the first century,” says Robert Cargill, assistant professor of classics and religious studies at the University of Iowa and editor of Biblical Archaeology Review. “So he would have looked like a Palestinian Jewish man of the first century. He would have looked like a Jewish Galilean.”

Remember the history of many who fled other lands for freedom of religion, only to, then, murder and steal the lands that Indigenous Americans had lived on for decades and perhaps even longer, and thought nothing of the violence they used in this effort? And, remember over the many years when America, through its constitution, welcomed the poor, the hungry, yearning to be free came to America...the land which continued to welcome? Well, many of those individuals came from countries where a State Religion had been declared... and they thought nothing, for instance, in Spain, to force conversion to Christianity...just... because... And history shows that it certainly wasn't because they shared the love of Jesus with all these people, so that they would, be given the choice to accept Jesus as their personal Savior...

Well, some of us...many of us...have been watching a certain segment of those who claim Christianity... become nothing but those who were the heads of authoritarian churches in Europe who followed a State Religion, often claiming that it was God's Will...? Yeah, even I, who know little about the actual details behind the facts of those days...still can see that America is now being tested! Are we the country who welcomed immigrants from all over the world, providing the freedom of religion that the constitution promised was the basis of America? .

Or, are we going to try to "Claim" that God really doesn't love anybody else but Christians.. And that those "people" therefore, should be in control of the government as well?! I live in Pennsylvania. I DO NOT AND WILL NOT SUPPORT A MAN WHO WAS INVOLVED WITH THE JANUARY 6TH INSURRECTION TO OVERTHROW THE 2020 ELECTION!

Personally, I think it is kinda ironic that the Democrat candidate for the position of Governor is from an active and involved Jewish Family with a proven track record in the State. So, some Christians want us to NOW hate the Jews, even though their own history acknowledge that Jewish people were favored of God?

But isn't that the issue...Some Christians quote from a Bible, those parts that can be manipulated to mean exactly what they want...us...to believe that they mean. I call that deception, not like my God of Love. I call that lying. Not like My God of Truth... As a professional book reviewer, I have a problem with those words which, to me, do not mean what many Trump followers are gaslighting and hoping you accept they mean. Claiming that "they even may have to use violence..." Mastriano, who sought to overturn Pennsylvania’s vote for Joe Biden in 2020, attended the rally preceding the attack and chartered buses to bring others. Though he says he left when things turned violent, video showed he passed through “breached barricades and police lines,” according to a Senate Judiciary Committee report..." He is now a republican candidate for Pennsylvania, as well as "Dr. Oz" a Trump-supported man who is not even a Pennsylvania resident! LIES!

All I say to you is that...I Bear Witness to God's Love for All...Equally... I chose a non-Christian, but faithful man of God as my choice for Governor... All I ask is that you do your own research... Seek God's guidance...NOT those MAGAs who are using a supposed, Holy Book, to manipulate words to create fear, hate, and prejudice... I CAN NOT AND WILL NOT BELIEVE THAT THESE ACTIONS ARE HAPPENING AND SUPPORTED BY MY GOD OF LOVE...FOR ALL PEOPLES...And, to be more, specific. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT AMERICA WAS MEANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN NATION...BY USING LIES AND MANIPULATION AND INCITEMENT OF FEAR AND HATE IN ORDER TO MAKE IT...A COUNTRY BASED ON THE GOD OF LOVE... it is illogic... it does not compute. it does not support the American Constitution...

God Bless you in fighting your way to the truth through this group who will do anything...including lying to Americans, without any remorse, shame, and, really, void of sympathy, empathy...and God's Love... Just My Personal Opinion, Of course...Bearing Witness to God as Love for all that He created...just as we are...After all, if you really believe what your Bible says, God knew each of us before we were born. That means, he created many different types and colors of people, don't you think?

Tonto says: White Man Speaks with Forked Tongue... READ, READ, READ, SEARCH FOR TRUTH! . I stand on the Rock of Ages...Solid Ground... Make sure what your house is built on...Lies cannot stand a solid ground...

Gabbie admits: Between you and me, I often get soooo confused with what is going on these days... Who do we believe? Who do we Trust? Is there anybody who speaks Truth? If you're like me, let's just continue working our way through all the lies...and, surely, surely, we'll be able to freely believe...and...trust...again...

Paula Rose Michelson Presents No Other Choice - Book 1 of What Promises To Be Outstanding Series! This has been added to my personal favorites for 2015!

Decree of Alhambra

As you read ‘No Other Choice’ please remember that our heroine’s story occurred while the Decree of Alhambra was still in effect. Before you begin, imagine what it would be like to grow up in a world where you were taught that who you are and what you believe might lead to your being arrested for life or killed and that what you experience could happen to your family. Those choices are the reason our heroine sets out on the journey you are about to experience. As she does, she thinks about America and silently repeats a line of Emma Lazarus’s poem, which says, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me …” --Preface

As they entered the building and turned down a dark corridor all Naomi could think was, now what will I do?

The man pointed to a chair in a stark office. Steeling her resolve, she entered, sat down, and clutched the old, brown, leather suitcase to her chest. Seeing an official take a man into a room, she heard his interview begin. The door shut. Her mind raced, now what… what now, demanding an answer. She closed her eyes, and tried to think of one but there were none. No answers for immigration, and she had known there would be none even before she ran away from home in the middle of the night without a goodbye or a note explaining. Aware that running away from the reality of being a Jew in a country that allowed only those of one faith, and that one not hers, to live there, she had planned to find her uncle once she was allowed into America and help him bring their family here. Tears formed. She blinked them back, certain that if she cried; she would never be allowed to enter America.

No Other Choice:

The Naomi Chronicles

By Paula Rose Michelson

I've read at least one other novel that took place during the religious persecution of Jews in Spain as provided for under the Decree of Alhambra. I have never been able to understand, in any way, how the Christian Church found it acceptable to use violence against those who had beliefs different from the Church; namely, the Catholic Church at that time. While the broader historical perspective is heinous in detail, I found the personal insight into just one life, Naomi, to be a truly outstanding revelation of what those individuals suffered on a personal basis, which continues, in my opinion, to a small or greater extent to today...

Naomi had proven to be a danger to her family back home due to her looks. I chose Lauren Bacall to act on behalf of Naomi--she's always had an interesting look different from others. It was natural for Naomi to try to act to save her family by leaving home when she was just a young girl. She was fortunate to become a companion to an elderly blind woman with whom she'd become close as she took care of her on the boat to America.

But she died before they had landed and the family quickly told Naomi that her services would no longer be needed...Meaning that they were no longer willing to sponsor her entrance to the United States! What was she going to do?
Aware that she would be sent back, the teenager muttered, “Oh, Adonai, I cannot go back there!” When she heard her own words, she thought, perhaps in America I should speak with Adonai in English, so she pled, “Oh, God, please help me … I cannot go back there!”
The old woman who sat down while Naomi was speaking asked, “Would you like to stay in America?”
 “Si!” Fearing the woman might not understand her, she switched to English. “I mean, yes… yes, I would. I would love to stay.”
“I will arrange it for you.” Naomi gasped. Maybe God is watching out for me after all! The small man leaving the office caught Naomi’s eye, and motioned for her to enter. When she stood, the old woman whispered as she rose. “Say nothing. Let me talk.”

That was the day that Naomi met La Senora, an old woman who came to the Immigration Office, when needed, to save young girls from being sent back to their homeland. She was introduced to Naomi as her sponsor, her Tia, your auntie...

Soon she was at her new home in what was then called Spanish Harlem...
You may wonder why I include "There is a Rose in Spanish Harlem" since this song was written later; however, some of the words reminded me of this story... You see, Naomi never came out during the day.. Specifically, Naomi went into the home of her new Tia and never came out again except to run errands perhaps when required... Years passed and she aided Tia in her work, never becoming acquainted with or meeting friends, other than the other girls that came into that house and then left to move on to a place that was arranged for them
.
What Naomi did do, however, was make use of the large library in the home and learned much about what was done to ensure that teenagers, left on their own, were not ever sent back...

Readers will easily assume, and be correct, in thinking that Naomi had been picked, out of all those who had come into that home, to be the new Tia. She did not know that until death had announced it to the world. Many were surprised and several tried to step in and take over, thinking this mouse of a girl was not prepared to handle what she discovered was a rather large estate... Naomi proved everybody wrong...

Perhaps she would have stayed there until she, too, died. But one of the men who had been helped by the Tia had come back and fell in love with Naomi... Again, she had to face the question, What was she going to do

Naomi had safely held her true identity a secret from everybody. Even her name was not her own. How could she consider an intimate relationship--even though she had for years longed to have exactly that!?

And then one of those "Spanish roses" was picked up at Immigration and came to live--everything started moving toward a collision course!

One of the things I quickly thought about was Naomi's inability to practice her faith..to sing out, to worship with others, instead of hiding her weekly quiet times during which she was able to communicate with God... I have always enjoyed many Jewish songs, such as from The Fiddler on the Roof...

Naomi had left home because she looked too Jewish and was causing problems for her family who had to hide and act as those who had been converted... She had no family. She had been forced to abandon her hope to find and stay with her uncle. She had no one when Tia had died. Now she was faced with what to do with her future... With no family to talk with, to help her decide...

Now she was falling in love, but had absolutely no experience with a relationship with a man...and there were so many secrets... But then he introduced her to a song...

“I bought a song for you … for us.” He hoped that she would understand what he implied and searched her face. Satisfied, he put the music on and led his bride to the imaginary dance floor. “I believe this song is one that you have never heard. It was popular in the fifties. I selected it for you because it speaks of us. Listen to the words and you will know, beloved, how much I understood about you even though we did not know each other as well as we do now when I selected this gift. Even the things that you had not shared with me, somehow I knew about them.”

Naomi smiled and struggled to quiet her racing heart. She wanted to experience the song the way Chaz envisioned she would and took a deep breath to calm herself. She saw Chaz’s eyes fill with expectation and worried that she might not have the reaction he wanted. However, as suddenly as they had come, her concerns evaporated. It feels as if an angel has sent a message to my heart, she thought as the song filled the garden and she discovered the exquisite
beauty of Chaz’s love for her while they danced together as Johnny Mathis’s sang, “Until the twelfth of Never, I’ll still be…” the beating of Naomi’s heart eclipsed the music, for it was all she heard until Chaz said, his breath hot against her skin, “I did not know how much I needed you until you found me.” Naomi nodded but could say nothing for those few words were all could think because they were her truth. Naomi happily beating heart rejoiced as the music swirled around them; and she smiled up at him.

 “What fragrance are you wearing, my beloved?” she heard him ask as he pulled her closer and sighed. Chaz’s kiss was slow and sweet. “Since you have decided to just listen, I will tell you that I never thought it would be like this.”

~~~
The church, with its spires and stained glass windows, came into view. Aware that the shortest route home required her to walk by the church she knew she must take it if she was to return before Chaz missed her. The edifice appeared to overshadow everything else, and memories of early evening twilight on Friday nights in Spain surfaced. She smiled as she saw in her mind’s eye how her mamá would gather her and her sisters together, make sure they were dressed in their very best, walk with them to the church, and have them light their candle.
She could almost hear her admonish, "Always remember we use their practice to hide our own. When you light your candle, pray to El Shadai, and he who is unseen will hear you even though we are in a place that does not know him.” When she turned the corner and looked at her home, she breathed a sigh of relief. She opened the gate, thought about her mother’s faith, and told herself, I can do this.
~~~

I was so moved by this book that I knew it was one of my personal favorites for 2015... It is hard to accept that anybody could ever be persecuted because of their faith and yet it happened, and still does... The book is timely, yet historical. Have we reached a point when we accept all religions as the right of choice for each individual? We all know that many have not... Read this story and you will not only sympathize, but you will be able to emphasize with Naomi as she struggles to be able to live...with her faith... I loved this and am already looking forward to the next book in the series.

No matter what religion you follow, this book will speak to you...about tolerance, about freedom of religion, about prejudice and the murderous results of some of those feelings! May we continue to move together toward understanding and love...This book, this story will help...all you have to do is let the words speak on behalf of the Naomi's of this world...

The wife of Lutheran Pastor and Chosen People Ministries field missionary, Ron Michelson, while a Church Ministries Coordinator for the mission her husband continues to serve in, Paula Rose Michelson asked God to gift her something unique to do. Little did she know that hearing Messianic believer and Pastor, David Hocking speak about Zion being both the land of Eretz Yisrael (Israel) and the Jewish people would lead her to research what befell the Spanish Jews (Sephardic) before, during and after the Inquisition. Beginning to write, word spread and some Sephardim contacted her to offer their stories. However, Naomi had already begun telling this dyslectic artist about her life, which is now a six volume romantic inspirational faith saga.
Other books - both fiction and nonfiction followed - but at her core, Paula's desire to faithfully depict Gods love, compassion, and forgiveness are the reason she continues to write. And having founded LAMB Ministries in 1988, Paula knows the biblical tools God taught her, which she faithfully passes on to women suffering from trauma and abuse are needed by all, so she includes a few within the pages of each book.

A Pius Man by Declan Finn Fantastic Thriller Also Clarifies History! One of Top 5 Favorites for 2013!

"Goldberg nodded. "Ah, sorry, it didn't process for a moment. Then again, there's been so much fuss made in the U.S. over 'Pius XIII'...ever since he took the name, lord..." She closed her eyes and thought for a moment. "The news coverage...depending on who you believe, the last pope to take the name either did nothing about the Holocaust, said nothing about the Holocaust, or was actively responsible for the Holocaust...
"...All of the historians were just as enraged that, not only had Joshua Kutjok picked the name Pius, but the Sudanese Archbishop had given two reasons for picking the name: "Like my predecessor, I, too, have a mission to save lives from a mechanism of death, which seeks to 'purify' a country through murder. Like Pope Pius XII, I will put all of my energies toward ending the murder and slavery in Sudan--North and South--as he did to save the Jews of Europe during the dark years of the Nazi infestation. To commemorate this mission, I will start the proceedings to canonize Pope Pius Xii..."
"Like some of his predecessors, Pius XIII was on a mission from God..."

A Pius Man:
 A Holy Thriller
By Declan Finn

Wow!
If I hadn't already read this book, I'd think it was a story with a group of super-heroes! Don't think I've seen another book other than comics that had such great and talented characters all working for good! When I saw "a holy thriller" I thought of the old Fr.Dowling mysteries, which both I and the author faithfully enjoyed. But Finn's thriller is not just two main characters solving the crime! The Pope's desire to not only take the name Pius XIII, but to canonize Pius XII, had become a major issue and everybody's interested... Interpol, Mossad, the BND (German Foreign Intelligence), the U.S., Egypt, and many more are all involved in this novel which, for me, must be placed in my top 5 favorites for 2013...

Many years ago, once in awhile, I would read small brochures from a preacher in our family about the atrocities in the Catholic Church. We were told to never date a catholic boy, of course...  Sometime later, probably through something I read, I learned that during Hitler's reign, the Pope forbid getting involved to save the Jewish people... which was unbelievable for me...

I applaud the author for helping ensure that this disinformation is corrected.. In his foreword, his author's notes at the end and via supplemental references on his blog.. Finn takes us into the Vatican where this is all taking place. The Pope has already assumed his duties and readers are met by Giovanni Figlia, head of security...

Justice Finally Served in Legal Thriller by Rocco Martino!

http://www.descopera.ro/cultura/3965166-
ilustrii-nebuni-de-pe-tronul-romei

"Execute them all!" The Emperor Tiberius was angry. The news from Judea was ridiculous. What was that fool Pontius Pilate up to? What incredible nonsense in that last dispatch from Judea. The carpenter son of a virgin had risen from the dead after being crucified. Impossible! What fools would believe a fairy tale like that? The criminal was really innocent? Who would murder an innocent man? Was this an execution for state reasons or for private gain? How could Pontius Pilate allow such a mess to happen? Worse still, how could it now come to his attention? There must be a situation brewing. The followers of this risen criminal could be a threat to Pax Romana - the peace of Rome. Nonsense! He would send Tribune Quintus to find out what had really taken place. His orders would be to investigate what happened, determine the best interests of Rome, and act accordingly. If need be, he could execute the whole lot; all the followers of the criminal, and even Pontius Pilate. "Send for Tribune Quintus!" he roared to his aide.

The Resurrection:
A Criminal Investigation
By Dr. Rocco Leonard Martino

Believe it! For 99 cents, I was able to read, perhaps, one of the most important books I will ever read! Once I started, I couldn't stop until finished, less than a day! For me personally, it seemed to give me what I had been searching for all my life!

Where was the justice for Jesus?

Of course, most of us have read that his death was all part of a plan...But for those of us who ask Why? Who seek to solve the mystery of what happened...and Want Closure... Dr. Martino has provided it! If you do a search on Dr. Martino, you will discover that he is an international authority in his professional fields. Please conclude therefore, that the work is well done, presented in a logical format, and, in my mind, would represent a professional investigation report that would be suitable to present to your superior.  Please note that there is nothing religious about this book...and should be read that way. That's why I considered it a thriller--a police procedural investigation novel that has one of the best cop characters I've ever read! Some readers may recognize some names who are called as witnesses...

Quintus kept a straight face, but he was greatly disturbed. Tiberius was right. Something very out of the ordinary had occurred here. This was a Centurion before him. This was a man who had carried out many executions and who was now telling him that the disappearance of the body of the criminal may have been a true resurrection from the dead. He decided to be stern to gauge the reaction. Emphatically he lashed out, “Centurion, you are a Roman soldier. Are you a believer in this Jewish Sect? Are you no longer a believer in our Roman gods? In fact, what do you believe?”
Drawing himself even more erect, Longinus looked directly at Quintus, “Tribune, I am a firm believer in the gods of Rome. I am a firm believer in the laws of Rome. I am a firm believer in the policy of our occupation that we work in a cooperative atmosphere with the religious beliefs of our conquered people. I am not a follower in the belief of the Jews as I understand it, and as I have seen it practiced in the Temple and in my duties as part of the occupation garrison,” Here the Centurion took in a deep breath, “but I do believe there is something radically different about this man, Jesus of Nazareth. I am leaning more and more toward the opinion that this man was not a criminal, but only a political pawn between the religious forces of the Jewish people. I believe He was caught in a power struggle between what He was preaching and the status quo. He was a threat to the religious leaders of the Jews, and they engineered His execution by us." The centurion paused, somewhat lost in deep thought, and continued, “He may have even been a god. As time goes on, I am attracted more and more to what He had preached.
Upon my retirement as a soldier in a few short years, I may even become a follower of His beliefs. I truly believe that none of His teachings are detrimental to Rome. Some of our soldiers even reported to me that He continually preached and said, ‘Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and to God that which is God's.’”

“What about the Roman gods?”
“Tribune, I have always kept a separation between my duties as a soldier and our religion of many gods. I know the Jews believe in one god rather than many; I further accept Jesus of Nazareth believed in a singular god. I am beginning to wonder if He was man and part of that god at the same time.”
Quintus sat back. This was a Roman soldier telling him there was a possibility that Jesus of Nazareth had not been a criminal and that He had risen from the dead, and that He might have been a god. Quintus was silent. “Thank you Centurion. You are dismissed.”
~~~
Now let's look at the main characters. The superior in this case is Tiberius, Second Emperor of Rome. Tiberius was fuming as we open the book because he just received a communication from one of his subordinates, Pontius Pilate. What had he just done?!
Tribune Quintus, who at that time was defined as an individual who defended the rights of people (cop!) was chosen to investigate what had caused all the trouble in Jerusalem. He and over 100 individuals took sail immediately upon receiving orders.
Both of these individuals worshiped the Roman gods at that time, so, I felt that was important, don't you think? Neither of these officials had any vested interest in anything other than the actions of Pontius Pilate and King Herod, both of whom ruled some part of the lands owned by the Emperor. His mission was:
  • Find out what exactly happened to the body.
  • Determine the political and power situation in Judea. This would require exhaustive examination of the relationship of the Jews, the Jewish leaders, King Herod, and the followers of Jesus to each other and to Rome.
  • Uncover the reasons for the current unrest, and unearth all factors in the life of Jesus and the actions of his followers, both as real and potential threats to Pax Romana.
Interestingly, Quintus was instructed to stop to visit Saul, a Tentmaker on their way. This was the first individual to whom Quintus had talked other than the Emperor and while he recognized his education as a pharisee, he also saw that Saul was adamant that Jesus should have been killed. As an aside, Quintus was assisted by a secretary, a slave who took notes which was fun to consider since it is hard to imagine how somebody would be able to keep notes at that time.
Fortunately for Quintus, Pontius Pilate was in Damascus so Quintus had the opportunity to proceed in his absence without any type of interaction. He immediately sought out Lucius who was head of the Roman Garrison. Although there had been early notices of what was to happen, Lucius had not been told to prepare so they went over things, and Quintus then asked for a list of all those that had been involved in either the death or the burial of Jesus. Two centurions, Sutonius and Longinus were identified and soon became totally involved in the investigation. Another centurion had come with Quintus, so they are were quickly formed into teams that would be responsible for various duties.
Longinus had been first interviewed by Quintus. He had been at the site when Jesus died. He had been the one to pierce his side with a lance to see that water and blood flowed out, as it would in death... Longinus became a personal aid to Quintus as he grew to trust him more and more and planned on nominating him as a Tribune when he met with Tiberius.
The disappearance of the body was the most problematic to Quintus and his investigation. He studied the grave, interviewed all individuals who were still alive--the guards that were assigned there were all executed--and could not find how the body had been stolen, carried away, or, if the man had not been dead, role the stone back by himself and escape.
Subsequent interviews with Pontius Pilate and Caiphas were brilliantly done. King Herod's interview was not covered much--it was clear to Quintus, upon meeting him, that this man was evil and would do anything to protect himself...
In my opinion the importance of this book is that there was no mandate guidance from the Emperor. He knew the two men involved but he couldn't just oust them from their positions. Sending an officer, albeit a close friend of his, was exactly what was needed. In fact, that is what Lucius, head of the Garrison, said should have happened long ago. Since it was not led by either the Jewish or the local officials, the novel allows so much to be explored by the individual in charge of the investigation--one who had no background on what had happened, who the people were that were really involved, nor the charged criminal...
This is a must-read for anybody who would like to learn how the investigation of an individual should be conducted...before...they were crucified... Thank you Dr. Martino for satisfying my personal need for closure...and for justice to prevail, at least legally...
