Your Poet Is: Thomas T. Kemp with "Triggers" during National Poetry Month...

Apple pie

Triggers:

What makes you remember?
Loving her pie was so stress-free,
Even knowing I should not eat it,
But apple pie is wonderful.
And she made her own crust.
I did not discern what type the apples were…
Red, green, yellow.
Then I was over the moon in love and reminded.
When I was six years old my Great Aunt Mary,
baked two apple pies every week for Great Uncle Bill.
Uncle Bill was a carpenter who worked beside my Dad.
Father would take me to work on summer morning,
My job?
Pick up the scrap wood and put it in brown burlap sacks
for burning in the old cast iron wood stove.
At lunch time Dad would open his black lunch box,
Out came the sandwiches and veggies.
But, I could hardly contain myself for the opening,
of Uncle Bill’s large brown paper sack.
He always had a grocery store in it.
Most important was three pieces of apple pie.
Before I die I want to make pies,
The truth is dark red cherry is my favorite.

Your Poet Is Thomas Kemp Presents "Stormy Weather" Powerful Words During National Poetry Month

Stormy Weather

In those days my hopes were black and twisted

And only my night time dreams

traveled on a traditional course.

But, deep in my soul,

knowing I could not make babies anymore

And give you the children you wanted badly,

You had to go out the door of my reveries.

You were taken away to be a mother

More than you were chosen to be my wife.

Love is simple and always true

you were to be a mother,

With all the details

that goes with it,

I was not in that design.

Children can go on forever

and me as a husband would have just been an indulgence.

The years have distributed to you two fine sons.

But, I have never forgotten you.

YOUR POET IS... Thomas Kemp - Celebrating Poetry Month... And More...

Two AM

Where could you be?
To love is to worry, again.

Now, it is twenty past three
you’ll say, you were looking for me?

It is true?

I was out there so lost without you.

Even my verses had ice-covered,

I was speechless and dumb.

Everyone thinks I am crazy.
To risk everything once more,
I just grin and tell them,
Have some respect for my woman.

Four Am.
You come inquisitively to the door,

God, she is downing again.

Thomas Kemp's Latest Creates Image of Jewelko...

Jewelko is one of the characters in Thomas Kemp's Novel. This poem reminded me of that character and the wonderful exchange between Jewelko and the young soldier who became her lover... Some other poems of those beautifully written exchanges are included in Your Poet Is...

Your Poet IS: Poetry and You
She spoke my name twice, Thomas Thomas.
And then added, please by all means
do come closer.

I was stretching as far as I could
while still trying to hold my balance.
echoing she said again
please by all means...come closer Thomas please.

It was then with those words I fell so far.

Expressions were the law
If you saw the soft face of love
Holding on to it was so necessary
To be sure the sound need not be uttered

Your hands were tight around the dream.

Ending the Old Year... with Poet Thomas Kemp

Old Golden Love...

Why is it I still carry,

Incised small pieces of old golden love?

Here around my neck on a small gold chain.

I am so old now and grey fills my hair

Incessant are my nights

Where you float across my blue swimming pool

Your face always carrying a smile

And your breasts are covered with yellow dainty flowers.

Maybe the answer is now Christmas is over

Another year of danger,

another year of almost loving someone new,

It’s all over… with just the thought

Spring hurry to me

Winter is gone…

How I wish it was so easy to do.

Latest Poetry from Your Poet Is...Thomas Kemp

Red Train
The last red train out of my heart is leaving now
I can’t look to see if you are standing on the edge
or sitting in the darken window with him.
The cold winter wind is driving us apart
So cold, not even a white angel will follow you away
It is not too late for you to reach back again
Let’s try to be devoted to one another once more
even if now you cannot love me.
Love will come again,
Give it a chance please by spring
Love will come again.
I will always love you.

Poetry From Thomas Kemp, Spotlighted Author

Candy in Her Bib Overalls

It was 1949 I was five years old.
In a converted aged chicken coupe
Daddy was working on a wagon for me.
With black wheels and painted spokes
I knew it would be fast running down hill.
Taking no backseat to anyone in the neighborhood
This red wagon would scream.

I never raced it after I met Candy.
She and her brother,
Mom and Dad moved in next door.
She was seven going on eleven and I fell in love.
The wagon and I were coming home one warm morning
From collecting returnable soda pop bottles.
When she came down the stoop steps
In her blue Bib Overalls.

It only took me six hundred jaunts
Back and forth
In front of her home
Before I talked her into a ride.
One that lasted all summer
And she taught me about flowers and magnolia trees
And pretty faces.
Did I tell you how beautiful you are?
How I have learned from you too.

Cement Tears

It was not much to look forward to
just a date to walk home at 5:00
and then the world shook
the next morning I was sure my phone recorder said
where are you my love?
Please come now and walk me out of here
take me home
and wash the cement dust from my eyes
but then again
you could have told me anything
but not
that she was gone.
