Michele Doucette Shares "What is Reiki?"

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also involves healing. Administered by the laying on of hands, it is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy (understood by the Chinese over 5,000 years ago) flows through us.

The practitioner uses his or her hands in the energy field of the client to facilitate healing. The client remains fully clothed and in a laying position. The practitioner usually moves his or her hands at a distance of a few inches from the body, although touching can be involved.

If one’s life force energy, or chi, is low, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If one’s life force energy, or chi, is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words.

Rei (pronounced ray) means God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power.

Ki (pronounced key) refers to life force energy.

As a result, Reiki is actually spiritually guided life force energy.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and overall self improvement.

“While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.”

As a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner, I send long distance Reiki to those who make the request, claiming only to be a facilitator of the Universal Energy, meaning that it is up to the individual(s) in question to use these energies in order to heal themselves.

“In order for the Reiki healing energies to have lasting results, the client must accept responsibility for her or his healing and take an active part in it. Therefore, the Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of the Reiki energy. It must also include an active commitment to improve oneself in order for it to be a complete system. The ideals are both guidelines for living a gracious life and virtues worthy of practice for their inherent value.”

Welcome to New Spotlighted Author - Michele Doucette!

Introducing

Myself...

My name is Michele Doucette, and I am, as some may have already been able to surmise, of French Acadian ancestry.

I love to play with words. I love to experiment with words. I love to orchestrate and arrange words. Winning spelling bees in Grade One, it is easy to see that I have always been fascinated with words. In addition, I was also reading before I ever went to school.

I always knew, on an intuitive level, that I would, someday, be published. One could conceivably say that I was destined to delve into the realm of authorship.

History quickly became my favorite subject in school; a fascination with research that also developed into a passion called genealogy. Focusing on the French Acadian people, I have worked on my own personal genealogies for close to twenty years. I have also been able to assist a great many in search of their own French Acadian roots.

Since 1985, I have been employed as a Special Education teacher. Working with the mentally and physically challenged, for the better part of twenty years, I have also worked with visually challenged, globally challenged and behaviorally challenged students. Likewise, I have worked with severe learning disabled and high functioning autistic individuals. As much as I continue to admire those that are employed as regular classroom teachers, this is an area in education that has never beckoned to me. September 2010 heralded the beginning of year twenty-six as a specialist teacher.

Not long after the birth of my eldest child, I was ready to embark on a spiritual journey; a journey in search of my own inner truth. Some have referred to this trek as one called Gnosticism.

This journey began with the reading of The Messengers: A True Story of Angelic Presence and the Return to the Age of Miracles by Julia Ingram and G.W. Hardin. It was this very book about Nick Bunick that led me into the adventurous realm of the metaphysical unknown. In continuation, I have been the webmistress of Portals of Spirit, a website dedicated to spirituality, since the dawn of the new millennium.

In keeping with this journey, I am very much fascinated by alternative healing modalities, holding both a Crystal Healing Practitioner diploma as well as a Level 2 Reiki certificate.

I am looking forward to sharing this next month with you.
