When God Made You - by Matthew Paul Turner; Illustrated by David Catrow - Simply Beautiful Words and Pictures!

Children's Books are fun to read...and to give. I have a new great-great-nephew, Avery, for whom I'm
thinking about building a small library, so when he comes to visit me, we'll be able to share and read one of those books that I've added, based upon the storyline. So, it was an easy choice to select When God Made You!

For surely, God gave this little boy to our family! And if you feel that same way about your children or other children who have come into your life through family, neighbors, perhaps church, or some other way, and want to select a book as a gift, then I do want to call your attention to this story.

In the first book of Genesis, we learn that God created us in His image. What does that mean? Well, Matthew Paul Turner has written beautiful poetic words that will explain how and why God made each of us in a special image that only God could do!

Do you favor the words or the pictures when you look at a book. For a picture book, I look at both, but when it's a children's book, I think your eye just naturally turns to the pictures first, don't you?

The author talks about having been a reader when he was young and when he now had children, he knew he wanted to promote the same love of reading to his children...

First of all, the author could not have selected a more wonderful illustrator! Kudos to David Catrow for really amazing pictures that have so much for the child to explore that she won't be able to stop looking, trying to find the child who is pictured on the cover.

You, you, when God made YOU,
God made you all shiny and new.

An incredible you, a you all your own,
a you unlike anyone else ever known.

An exclusive design, one God refined,
you're a perfectly crafted one of a kind.

Cause when God made you.
somehow God knew
that the world needed someone
exactly like you.
~~~
You know, folks, one of the things that comes through in the words of Matthew Turner in this book and others, is that, indeed God designed each of us. He designed some to be one color and some another, but He surely knew what he was doing when he made me...and you... and you... and you, didn't He?
This is a happy book to share with your child, learning about God's part in creating him-- especially when you spend the time to read along. I remember when Avi was visiting and we looked through a book about cats that even had a button to press to hear a meow! It's a special time that we all can share, no matter what age your child might be. And, if you're smart, you'll keep adding books to that home library to ensure that the joy of reading--one of God's gifts to us-- will continue throughout their lives!
Watch for more children's books as I build Avi's library over the years. He's not yet talking much and certainly not reading, but if you have a book to recommend, let me know!
God Bless
Sigal Adler Writes Children's Book With Important Theme in Today's World - The Carrot Race!
The owner of the nursery, by the name of Mr. Scope,
Was an older well-dressed goose, who often smelled of soap.
He was holding some carrot seeds in two small packets,
These are for a contest," he said to the rabbits."
Who's the finest gardener? That's what I want to test,"
The one who grows the biggest carrot I say is the best.
The winner will run the nursery–that's my prize to you,
"While I travel round the world, my dream come true.
The Carrot Race
By Sigal Adler
The two main characters, who happen to be rabbits named Ruth and Mark, both worked at a nursery, taking loving care of the plants. They had become friends.
Above the green valley a warm sun was shining,
Two rabbits who met there were cheerful and smiling.
They were going to work, butterflies were everywhere
 Welcoming a new day, spring was in the air.
 "Good morning," said Rose,
Who had glasses on her nose.
"Good morning," answered Mark,
Whose shining fur was dark.
The two worked together, at the nursery over there,
 Giving all the plants and flowers tender loving care.
The rabbit who wanted to be boss most was Rose,
She and Mark soon became bitter foes.
~~~
Their boss was interested in going on a long vacation and wanted to promote one of them. To select that employee, he set up a competition to see who could grow the best carrot. The winner would become the new boss. A personal note--too often bosses take an easy way out so that they do not have to make hard decisions...after all, who really knows whether the best rabbit is selected based upon a contest???

Finally! A Children's Book that speaks out against competition--of placing individuals against each other in order to win!

I believe we are creating a world geared toward selfish belief in yourself--providing a feeling that you must compete and win to be successful. This just isn't so!

Adler uses poetic rhyming verse to tell her tale and quickly points out the result of being pitted against each other. Rose wanted to be promoted and she forgot about the fact that her competitor was a friend!

Both worked very hard to care for their carrot, but Ruth was always comparing hers, making comments to Mark about surely winning... Did she?

I was delighted with this story. With colorful bright animals and a simple race to grow a carrot, the author easily points out the problem when competition comes into play, especially between or among friends.

The author successfully teaches an extremely important lesson to be learned by children and some adults alike. I recommend the book highly for your consideration.

The Polar Bear

Once there was a polar bear as white as white could be,
He roamed around his frozen land, to see what he could see.
But everywhere he wandered, however far he trekked,
Held no surprises, nothing new, no colour, not a speck!

The land was white, the sky was white, the animals as well,
All through the day and through the night, the snow constantly fell.
The polar bear had had enough of seeing snow all day,
He pondered, wondered, fantasized, of how to get away.

Then one day from on a cliff, whilst looking out to sea,
The idea came, he realized, just how he could be free!
No time to waste so he made up his mind right then and there,
He took a run up to the edge and leapt into mid-air.

He timed his dive quite perfectly, it was really very nice,
He landed safely with a crunch on a floating lump of ice.
His friends all hollered from the shore as he floated away,
"Polar bear, oh please take care, and come back safe,OK?"

He sailed for days across the sea, but no land came in sight,
Everything around him was, unfortunately still white.
"Shall I turn around?" he thought, "And give up on this dream?"
But at that moment he saw something he had never seen.

His eyes were wide, his heart stood still in awe of such a view,
The snow had stopped and up above, the sky had turned bright blue!
Each and every single cloud had parted one by one,
Now sapphire sea surrounded him and sparkled in the sun.

He looked around in wonderment as tears rolled down his face,
He thanks the waves for bringing him to that beautiful place.
All his hopes and all his dreams were coming true at last,
But sunshine and the warm winds meant, the ice was melting fast!

His luck was in, for up ahead, a shore of golden sand,
Awaited him, yes, he had found, a new and different land!
For the first time in his life he felt, warm sand under his feet,
It came as such a welcome change from ice and snow and sleet.

He saw some pink shells striped with red and some that shone like glass,
And pretty pebbles in the surf, of copper, jade and brass.
He left the beach and made his way, along a little track,
Where butterflies showed off their wings, of cobalt blue and black.

He stepped into a forest which was bursting full of green,
And birds with splendid feathers of fluorescent tangerine.
Lime green frogs with bright blue spots, red snakes with stripey tails,
Multi-colored tortoises and giant purple snails.

Through the trees the polar bear, continued on his way,
When suddenly he saw a view which took his breath away!
A plain of wildflowers for, as far as he could see,
And in his heart he knew he'd found, the place he longed to be.
A billion tiny petals waved in every shade and hue,
Of pink and yellow, orange, red, of purple, green and blue
The polar bear just stood and stared in silent wonderment,
Until at last the day had past, and he felt quite content.
And when the stars filled up the sky, he turned around to go,
Back to the place that he called home, that land of ice and snow.
He made his way back through the woods and back along the track,
The colours of the day had gone, instead now only black.
But every now and then the moon would shine it's silver light,
Between the clouds that past it and, illuminate the night.
And standing on the beach he wondered what could be his boat,
He needed something big and strong enough to stay afloat.
In the moonlight he saw something floating near some rocks,
When he got close he saw it was, a great big cooler box.
He jumped on board and cast it off, into the ebbing tide,
The polar bear sailed smoothly with, the current on his side.

The polar bear had been at sea for two days and a night,
When all the blue just upped and left the world shrouded in wide.
He closed his eyes and dreamed about the colours he had seen,
He couldn't wait to tell his friends, about where he had been.

He woke up with great surprise, the box had run ashore,
He rubbed his eyes and realized that he was home once more.
He gave a roar then all his friends, appeared and gathered round,
They danced and sang and clapped and cheered, to see him safe and sound.

For having taken such a trip, he'd made himself a name,
From that day on, the polar bear, never was the same.
