Fribbet The Frog and the Tadpoles - A Story of New Siblings...By Carole P. Roman

One of the things I like about the Captain No Beard Series is that it's always aimed at the family environment. It clearly shows that the adventures all begin and end within the home of Captain No Beard.... Occasionally, Mom appears to let parents know that she is fully aware of what games and adventures the children are involved with...

And, whenever a new sibling appears--either human or animal (or stuffed animal!)--they are quickly brought into the story and allowed to become part of the pretend imaginative events!

And Fribbet the Frog is the one that is experiencing the fears and the joys this time! Want to hear more?!

Fribbet The Frog and the Tadpoles

By Carole P. Roman

One of of work activities that the crew always is involved with is swabbing the decks. Hallie was doing just that when Cabin girl Cayla picked up the bucket being used and spilled it... All the dirty water went out over the clean deck... Something had to be done immediately so Captain No Beard called for Fribbet to help!

Now in case you don't know it, Cabin Girl Cayla is Captain No Beard's little sister and she didn't know what she was doing when she spilled that water--remember when Captain No Beard, in another book, had to baby sit Cayla and wasn't too thrilled about it! LOL

Anyway, Captain No Beard had called out for Fribbet but they couldn't immediately find him.

Captain No Beard watched the crew from the bow of the ship. "Being a captain is hard work," he sighed. "What a mess," he muttered. "Ahoy, Fribbet, Fribbet, report to the main deck for a clean up. Shiver me timbers; where is that frog?"

Linus bellowed, "Fribbet!"
Polly Parrot flew overhead and saw Fribbet huddled at the stern. She landed next to him, calling out, "I've found him."
The little frog was crying...
~~~
Fribbet looked at them and said, "Monsters are funny; I love
snakes. I see very well in the dark, and I love Linus, so; no,
no, no, it's not any of those things."
~~~
When Polly Parrot finally found him, he was crying. Immediately Captain No Beard went over to talk to him and find out why he was crying. Fribbet responded that he was scared!

Everybody called out what they were scared of, to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't.

But all of his friends told him that they were his friends and would try to help if they could. Captain No Beard told him,

"Problems can weigh you down like a heavy anchor. When you share your load with others, it's never too heavy to carry...Arrrgh!"
                               ~~~
And then Fribbet shared that things were different at home and he didn't like it. He started talking about eggs all over the place, and that they then hatched!
Maybe this will help you understand what Fribbet was describing...
You see, Fribbet's Mom was having babies and he didn't understand what was
happening and was afraid, especially since they started as eggs and then started changing... and the most important thing was that they were taking up all of Mom and Dad's time! Captain No Beard looked at Cayla and the mess she'd made and remember how he felt when Cayla came into his family!
Well, Fribbet's friends started talking to him and he began to understand and even get excited!
I'm waiting for Callie, my calico cat to have her kittens, so I know it is confusing and everything seems to happen at once and it changes everything!
But for the Good! Just take the time to learn more from Fribbet and his friends, won't you?! It's so very important for children to learn and understand when a new baby or babies come into the home. Carol Roman has provided a delightful way to help children begin to learn about the time when a family, no matter whether human, animal or stuffed toys, is going to add to the love of his family and friends!
Highly Recommended!
Beautiful Aurora Borealis--Latest Captain No Beard Story Takes Us There! And More!!! Check out 3 Reviews!
Captain No Beard and the Aurora Borealis
 By Carole P. Roman
 Have you ever seen it? I haven't, but I sure would love to! This time Captain No Beard takes children, and adults, to a place few will ever experience! Want to come?! I can't wait!
First, have you met Captain No Beard? Well this is the latest story, Volume 7 and it just might be something one of your children will love as a stocking stuffer! In fact, since it's that time of the year, I decided to read all of the Captain No Beard stories that I've not yet published...
Let's Start With the Latest!
The Captain and his crew are heading north where it is very cold--and lots of icebergs! That's another thing I've never seen! How about you?!
The Crew called them giant ice mountains but, you know what, they are totally made of... Water! Yes, just like we drink!
But it was also very dark and everybody started asking questions about where they were going! Can you imagine feeling that cold after sailing through all those warm climates that the crew has explored? BRRRRRRR!  I'm already shivering here and it hasn't even started snowing yet this year!
The Captain pointed and announced they were heading North, following the North Star, or Polaris...
I love to see the stars, but have never studied astronomy, which is how you learn about stars. Maybe you'll get a chance to have classes someday, but here's a pic in the meantime...and a way for you to find the North Star by finding the Big Dipper... Wow!
The Crew was getting excited and also very nervous, because the Captain announced that, as a Pirate, he wanted to take something back home from that strange place! But everybody started exclaiming that that was stealing! The Captain got upset, at least with his crew! What should he do?
And what he wanted to steal and take home was something so beautiful that nobody could deny it would be wonderful to see all the time! Can you imagine what they could do instead of stealing the Aurora Borealis?
But did you know that different colors in the sky also can help you predict what weather changes are coming? That's one of the things they discovered in the adventure to Snake Island!
The sun lit up the clouds on the horizon. All of the crew stopped their chores to watch the beautiful sunrise.
"Oh, how pretty!" First Mate Hallie exclaimed.
"I see orange, yellow, and bright pink," Mongo the monkey called from the mainmast.
"It is special," Captain No Beard agreed...
But then Polly the parrot squawked, and she should know,  "It may look colorful, but all I have to say Is: 'red sky at night, sailors delight; red sky in morning, sailors take warning." Now some of you may have heard that little saying before, but it often proves to be true...and soon the rain was coming down!
Well, they did finally make it to Snake Island... and you wouldn't believe what the treasure was that they found! Of course, I was pleased that I already enjoyed that treasure--and hope all children everywhere have the opportunity to share it too! Do check this book out! It's a Treasure!
The next story is an important one about meeting strangers! The title puts it right out there as even on the high seas, there will be strangers...
This important story has a great touch of humor. Because, as you may have guessed, the stories of Captain No Beard are all imaginary while the crew are all friends--real and imaginary alike.
But reality has to play a part sometimes, and now Captain No Beard has been assigned baby sitting duties! Actually the crew doesn't mind much and by the end of this story,  everybody was glad to have their new cabin girl with them!
Because there was a great big, dark ship sailing their way!
Well, that ship kept coming and their captain started asking for help with directions, but Captain No Beard was not deceived and had his crew recite rules about what to do when strangers talk to them...
Naturally, they turned the ship and started away from the other one...but they followed!
Roman has taken a somewhat dark subject and allowed it to become a bit humorous about who saved the day! But it also provided guidance about sibling relationships which I appreciated...
Cute ending to a warning of danger... More reviews coming soon
Ahoy Matie! The Crew Goes Coconuts! and Matie is the Target! Fun Colorful Story by Carole P. Roman...
Carole P. Roman has a pirate crew series headed up by Captain No Beard...well of course he doesn't have a beard--he's not old enough! Duh... Couldn't call him Bluebeard, or Blackbeard, right!? Besides he's not a real pirate even though a handful of jewels came with the book, as well as a passport to use when we travel...But isn't it fun to pretend? LOL
Today's review is on the latest (6) addition to the series and is just as funny, colorful, and instructional as, I am sure, the other books are...
 But, let me tell you a little about what the crew is up to this time... and it's more a fable than an adventure tale... and Matie is the star...you might say...
At least he's who everybody starts to bully! See if you can guess from the front cover who Matie is...
The Crew Goes Coconuts!
A Captain No Beard Story
By Carole P. Roman
"It's all because of that goat Hallie brought aboard,"
Mongo the monkey grumbled.
"She drank a double portion" Polly Parrot whispered as they
moved to a corner of the deck.
"Whoever heard of a goat named Matie?"
Linus the lion growled.
Fribbet hopped around the deck looking for Captain No Beard.
"Oh no, Captain..." His face looked worried.
"The crew is not happy...oh no, sound the alarm..."
~~~
It was fortunate that the crew was sailing in the right location when it happened, else it could have been really dangerous--scurvy and all that, you know...

You see, they were totally out of water and juice! They normally stocked up with juice boxes, but they had taken on a stranger who had, accidentally, I am sure, drunk the last!

They were standing in water with no wind for the sails, but the sun was so bright! They had already searched for water, but it just was not available. "It was hot and they were thirsty!

And that's when it started--somebody had to be blamed!

And Matie had been the one to drink the last...therefore, she was to blame! Of course, they wouldn't have thought to realize just how much each of them had already consumed!

Now Hallie was the youngest of the crew, even still in her diapers... But not even crying was going to help, so she just stood by Matie while the others started teasing...

"Matie the goat!" Lion roared. "What kind of a name is that?" Her name should be Gilly, or Gertrude...:
"Or Gail!: Mongo added...
Mongo, Linus, and Polly laughed and danced around her, pulling at the new ribbon.
"Maaaaaatie!" they shouted with laughter.
"You can't even say it right," said Mongo...

And then they were checking to see that everybody agreed that Matie was to blame! Well, that didn't work and then they started to take sides!

But by that time, the Captain was climbing down the ladder. Even he was hot and disgruntled, "Being a Captain is hard work," he mumbled under his breath. In fact, he was so irritated that he started to call them right from the ladder! Uh. Oh.

The Captain's got to do what the Captain's got to do and he started talking to each of those who started the trouble!
When he did not get a response, he demanded,
"Attention! Front and center!"
They all jumped to form a line and he walked up ano! d
down the ranks, stopping fir at Mongo.
"Mongo! Tell me something..."
~~~
After he had settled everybody down, well, you'll just have to wait to see! After all, there's lots more happening and you'll have to find out whether they are finally safe and sound...
And who saved the day!
This is simply a darling story. There's so much it is telling about getting along, but it is so much fun seeing the Captain take control of those who were causing the trouble...just about everybody who reads this book, including me, are bound to have learned something...
Me? I found out that sometimes having a hard head is just what's needed! LOL
Full of creative imagery and a fascinating merge of pictures with words, Carole Roman will provide fun and learning all at one time! It's sensitively done so that the bullying is demonstrative in a light fashion, yet makes the point by having the Captain face each of the ones who are doing the teasing... And I loved the ending!
Highly recommended, as always, for all ages up to early teens, if they're still willing to read it...
