Fatal Justice by Marie Force - One Book Convinced Me To Recommend Series!

"Are you going to be able
to get past it, Chris? She
matters to me."
"She was a total bitch to
me. Treating me like a
murderer. As if I could've
killed John."
"She was just doing her
job."
"Her job sucks..."

"Have you been apprised of your committee assignments yet?" asked a reporter from the Richmond Times Dispatch.
"No, but I imagine I'll take Senator O'Connor's assignments since I'm only here for a year."
"Your relationship with Lieutenant Holland has gotten a lot of attention lately--"
"I'm not going to discuss that."
"The public is interested."
"My personal life is of no consequence to my duties as a United States senator. Let's keep the focus on that."
"Do you plan to get married?"
Frustrated, Nick stood up. "I have an office full of guests, so if you'll please excuse me, I'd like to get back to them." He left the conference room and bumped into Christina Billings, whom he had promoted from deputy chief of staff into the job that used to be his--chief of staff.
"What's wrong Senator?" she asked. "You look pissed."
He ran a hand through his hair, noting the odd sound of his new title coming from his longtime friend and colleague. "The country's at war, the economy's in shambles and all they want to talk about is my love life."
"People are curious. It's to be expected."
"It's annoying.

Fatal Justice
By Marie Force

No matter how many thousands of books an individual reads, there is always a new author that you accidentally find...and, with one book, you know you wish you could be following the series! That's how I feel about the "Fatal Series" by Marie Force, which I picked out from the Amazon Vine list. I realllllly enjoyed the book! My first reaction was to go out and order...but then I told myself that I can't continue doing that! Still... Anyway, if YOU have the time, I'll wager this is a series you should consider...Let me share some points I especially liked which increases its contemporary feel...
  • A personal relationship becomes public fodder for social media when the male is appointed to an empty seat on the Senate. A common news headline issue...
  • Force has the ability to slide in moral concepts without breaking stride in her story and really lays in some zingers about hypocrisy in today's world...
  • The series has a group of characters that will draw readers to want to know more about them (even if the Senator doesn't want us knowing about their private lives! LOL)...
  • The value of honor, truth and justice within government is a major point involved in stories...
  • Jealousy, bullying and backbiting within work environments...

Sam and Nick are a fairly new couple who are still struggling with commitment and issues facing their unique job activities. She's a cop who was just promoted to Lieutenant. He's a politician who has just been appointed to a one-year term to the Senate.

Due to the murder of John O'Connor, who was also a close friend of Nick's.

Sam is in homicide and now responsible for the case, which will, of course, require her involvement.  Ahhh, the PR issues they will automatically be facing! Not so easy to deal with while trying to develop a trusting personal relationship.

One thread important to mention is that Sam is placed under investigation by IA. The main reason is that her promotion resulted in a transfer of her former boss to, you guessed it, Internal Affairs.

The issue? Sam and Nick, who was a part of the investigation of Senator O'Connor, became intimate during that investigation--a "no-no" of course...

Another thread which is obviously an ongoing one is that Sam's Dad, a cop hurt in action, is now confined to a wheelchair and the case has become cold... A major clue seemed to have occurred, but, it turned out to be only a clue that must be pursued... As you can see, the author does an excellent job in getting you involved with the entire series!

Not long after John O'Connor had been killed another friend, who was a Supreme Court nominee, was murdered...and then his nephew and lover were attacked...and, finally, Nick and Sam were almost killed when a car tried to run them down...

Were all of these issues caused by one person? Or were there various threads happening at one time that just were playing out all at once.

This novel is intriguing and captivating as you try to work out all that is happening. A great mystery! But I think I more enjoyed the interplay between Sam and Nick as they tried to adjust to the other in their lives...Secrets were kept, feelings were hurt... Nick began to fear every time Sam was called out and decided at one point, he can't deal with being afraid of her being hurt. Sam tries to shield him from worry and then gets caught when Nick hears news from somebody else! It's funny for readers, but not for the characters involved!

And then there's Nick, who buys a dress and shoes for a special evening, to which Sam is looking forward to a quiet time, only to wind up at the White House for a major social event! Yikes! Talk about not communicating! [with standins you may recognize]

Romantic Suspense is indeed what Marie Force writes. Check out the entire series, although I got a little confused whether this is a second edition or whether all of them have been outlined and in the queue...No matter, if interested, you can surely get help figuring that out! Highly recommended!
