The Gardener's Secret by Jamie Cortland

Eddie drove south on AIA from Delray, glancing occasionally to the oceanfront homes on his left looking for laws and young women that appeared to need his special brand of TLC. As he slowed down to observe the mansion on his left, a beautiful auburn haired woman, who appeared to be in her early thirties,
opened the massive front door and walked down the curved driveway to the bright red Ferrari. Opening the door, she slid into it, turned over the engine, and pulled out of the driveway heading north. Whoever she was she needed his services. He pulled into the parking lot down the road, turned around, and drove north, slowing down long enough to take down the address of her home. Once he'd taken down the address he picked up speed. When he was close enough, he memorized the number of the license plate.
When he returned to the small apartment he was renting in Pompano Beach, he booted up his computer. After a thorough search, he discovered that the Giardinis, both partners in JVS Development Company owned the Ferrari and the home jointly. He watched the home and the two occupants for several days. When the woman left with Mr. Giardini on Friday morning, he followed them to JVS's offices. Several hours later, she left aloone to run errands and returned home without her husband. Down the street from her home, he parked in a lot by the intra-coastal and waited for her to step out of her home again. It was not long. When she did, he continued tailing her, hoping that she would go to a department store or to the post office so that he could go into the store and catch a closer glimpse of her, maybe bump into her and even speak with her. But he realized that wasn't going to happen when she returned to the office.
He sighed, satisfied. He'd seen the woman of his dreams and he intended to have her, one way or another.

The Gardener's Secret

By Jamie Cortland

This is the second book, now listed on Amazon, published by this author and her villains are similar in both books. In fact, the first chapter in this book introduces that villain, a stalker, who makes it quite clear that he has found his next "woman of his dreams." He is a gardener who uses his charm to get hired and then proceeds...

The book is a merge of two genres the author has written in...more romance than suspense but also drama.  If you enjoy watching/reading what happens in the daily lives of individual characters, then do check this out...

Dannie Giardini is the main female character, while, in the second chapter we learn that her husband was scheduled to fly on a plane that later crashed. After some investigation, there is a basis for belief that he might not have been on the plane, but, if not, where is he?

Dannie has been in business with her husband and his partner, and Sal works to help Dannie adjust to Vince, her husband, being gone.

A twist comes in fairly early as Dannie meets a stranger, who happens to have a cousin--a woman who had been in an affair with Vince and had a child... Dannie, by the way, is attracted to that stranger, but fights her feelings...

The author chooses to tell her story rather than have her characters act out more of what is happening (not recommended and referred to as the "show not tell" method). When I read a book like this, I think of daily television dramas where you sit back to watch the story unfold, but don't really get the chance to participate in what is happening. For me, there really was no suspense as each character was identified immediately as to his intent and role... Readers knew what to look for and expect--no twists or turns that were unexpected, except for perhaps one when Dannie chooses to meet Vince's lover and what she does...

Throw in a murder to provide more knowledge about our stalker and his urges...

The ending is anti-climatic with an ending that was totally expected... It's a good story, well written... Frankly, however, from the title and cover, I expected...more...suspense. The story is laid out as if an outline was created...and then the story was written... This reader found no way to become involved with the characters...The plot is fairly simple, information presented immediately, and then developed in a pattern that smoothly flowed, so smoothly that I grew bored with the lack of any complexity beyond the basic framework included in the first chapters. If you read closely, everything, including the murder, is covered within the narrative in advance, not as a clue, but merely as part of the storyline...

Do check out other reviews for the book...In my opinion, the author needs to read other writers and see the presentation of suspense. Suspense normally heightens action and tantalizes the reader with the hope of questioning what will be happening. While those are my thoughts, it is a good concept, so you decide what kind of reader you are. I admit I have a problem with books that tells rather than shows, even though some writers do use it...

Night Sorrows Introduces Rebekah McCabe as Main Character in New Series

I very much enjoyed this book, but it took extra time to read it. When I got the ebook without the cover, I immediately went on alert...

With over 50 years in writing reading and editing in one form or another, the last decade or so with books, I have found that some type of formatting issues can be very disruptive...

Night Sorrows is a complex, multi-faceted story and the author has worked hard to keep all sub-plots in the reader's mind... That's where the ebook issues occurred... Ebooks allow a lot of flexibility for the reader, but at the same time, it often affects the original typed story...In this book, Craig had inconsistent results for change of scene - I might say this is the worst problem faced by creators of ebooks and oftentimes fails... Instead of belaboring the reading problems, I just want to recommend that a writer use an actual break, such as ###, to show scene change. Since there is no consistency in a page, there is no way to effectively use space lines... The problem results in jarring mind jerks as scenes change without knowing and an entirely different topic and set of characters begin... I might add that too many scene changes in a row can also be disruptive..

Readers may decide whether this is important to them; the book would have been given a 5 by me, if not for the reading problems that occurred...

Night Sorrows:
A Rebekah McCabe Mystery

By Bill Craig

“I heard a noise and I turned, then my head felt like it exploded.  I saw stars and then everything went black.  I don’t know how long I was out, but when I came to, I felt helpless.  It was hard to make my body function.  I saw blood on the wall.  I wondered if it was mine at first, but then I finally realized that it wasn’t.  It couldn’t be.  Because, while it felt like my brains might be leaking out, they couldn’t be splattered down the wall for me to be alive,” Rebekah McCabe said.
“You don’t like feeling helpless, do you?” Alexus Prince asked. “No, I don’t.”
“So, feeling helpless . . . what did that make you feel like?” “Like I was a goddamn failure at the only job I ever truly loved,” McCabe replied.
“Your work is very important to you?”
“It is.  It defines me.”
“Have you ever considered doing anything else?”
“Not really, no.  I like what I do.”
“Even when you fail?”
“I never said I failed.  I caught the bad guy in the end.”
“But your client was still dead.  You were hired to keep her alive.”
 “I brought her killer to justice.  I count that as a win,”
 McCabe sighed.
“Interesting.  I see our time is about up.  I want you to think about this and tell me what you might have done differently, given the chance,” Alexus Prince told her.
“There was nothing to do differently.  I caught the bad guy.  That was my job.”
“It was, but that became your job only after your client was killed.”
“It did.  I don’t let things like that stop me from doing what I was hired to do.  Caroline England hired me to find out who wanted to kill her.  I did that, and then I made sure that the son of a bitch was prosecuted.”
McCabe looked over at Alexus Prince.  The psychiatrist was shorter and smaller boned than her, with thick black hair that seemed to hint at a Greek heritage.  Her brown eyes were large behind her designer glasses, her face impassive, as she looked back at McCabe.  Her make-up was minimal, her natural beauty didn’t require much enhancements.  She was wearing a pair of silk grey linen slacks with a maroon silk dress shirt.  Her nails were stylishly polished in a two-tone shade of pale blue and white.
“I want to help you, Rebekah, but I can’t if you are going to fight me every step of the way.  Work with me instead of against me and maybe we can get the nightmares to stop,” Alexus told her. “Okay, I’ll try.  Coming to see you isn’t easy for me.  I’m not used to talking about my feelings with a stranger, even though we are friends.”
“Is there someone you are comfortable talking with?”
“Yes.  My Pap, back in Texas.”
“Then give him a call, Rebekah.  See what advice he has to offer.  It might even help,” Dr. Prince said.
“I’ll think about it.  Same time next week?” Rebekah asked.
“I’ll make sure that you’re scheduled.”
“Thank you, Doc.  I’ll see you then,” McCabe replied, standing and walking towards the door.
“This will get easier, Rebekah,” Dr. Prince called after her.
“I hope so,” McCabe sighed, before stepping through the door and closing it behind her.  McCabe looked at her watch.  She needed to get to the office and hopefully, she would get a new case to take her mind off what had happened to her in Caroline England’s apartment last month. Rebekah McCabe was sipping from her Starbuck’s cup of coffee when the door to her office opened and a very elegantly appointed, yet casually attired woman walked in.  She was a middle-aged woman, with blonde highlights in her hair and professionally styled makeup.  She wore expensive designer jeans, an expensive designer tee-shirt, and expensive Adidas sneakers.  She was very well put together.  Her eyes were a worried blue and her mouth was a tight red lipstick line across her face.
“Can I help you? Bekah asked. “My daughter is missing.  I need you to find her,” the woman said, flatly.
“Okay.  What is your name?” McCabe asked.  McCabe was a tall long- haired redhead with jade green eyes.
“Jeanette Larson,” the woman said.  Bekah wrote it down. “What’s your daughter’s name?”
“Courtney Larson.”
“How old is she?”
“She’s sixteen.  She looks older, something of an early bloomer, like I was.  Beautiful brown hair and brown eyes.  She’s about five-foot-five-inches tall, maybe a hundred and twenty pounds,” Jeanette sighed.
“What was she wearing the last time you saw her?”
“Blue jeans with rips in the legs, you know like the kids wear these days, and a pink tee shirt.  She has on BCBG flip flops and had her purse with her, a Dolce & Gabbana.  It is made of jean material, too, with sequins on it” Jeanette explained.  It was clear the woman just expected Rebekah to know the names of the attire that her daughter was wearing.  But, that didn’t put off Bekah.
“Do you know why she left?” McCabe asked, raising her eyes at the coveted designer names worn by a teenage girl.
“We had a fight.  I don’t like her boyfriend.  He is a f****** abusive jackass.”
“Except Courtney doesn’t see it that way?”
“No, she doesn’t.  She thinks that she loves him.”
“You think she ran off with him?”
“Maybe.  All I really know is that she is gone, and he is her boyfriend.”
“That’s a lot, in and of itself.”
~~~
In announcing Night Sorrows, Craig declares that it might be his best book yet. I have not previously read anything by this author, but I can confirm that the story is very good... As the book opens, we meet the main character, Rebekah McCabe. She is meeting with her psychiatrist about how she is doing after her last case in which her client had been killed...
We are also meeting one of Rebekah's new clients--Alexus Prince, her psychiatrist, early in the book, realizes she may have a stalker! And soon seeks help from Rebekah...
But Rebekah has just accepted a doozy of a case. A young girl's mother has come to seek her help in finding her. Her daughter has left home, possibly with a boyfriend. What Rebekah finds out is much worse...Giving away one thing that happens helps illustrate both the complexity and dangerous situation the young girl is in... You see, her boyfriend, owed money, and gave his girlfriend to them as collateral until he could get the money. You guessed it, by that time, Courtney Lawson was much more valuable than what her boyfriend owed him, so he was killed when he tried to free Courtney... A horrible situation suddenly got worse...
Courtney Lawson had already been taken by the entire group that now owned her and they figured she would be worth much more when they turned her out, drugged...
Rebekah used to be a cop, a good cop. We don't know exactly why she left, but there is some trouble between her and her former boss...could it be that he wanted a relationship that was not to be? Rebekah is now dating another officer so is able to gain access to information as needed.  Rebekah is tough and is willing to tackle anything that comes her way. But I liked the fact that she was also undergoing counseling to help her deal with the dangerous life she had chosen...
We learn that she is from Texas and the rest of the family are Texas Rangers...They have become distant when she chose not to stay with the family legacy. All except Pop, who is a wonderful character that comes to clear his granddaughter's name... You see, her old boss had named her as a person of interest for the killing of the boyfriend, who was murdered soon after she'd met with him... Rebekah immediately goes rogue and moves in with a former retired Texas Ranger, who turns out to be the contact to get Pop on a plane...The two of them working together was one of the highlights of the book!
And while Rebekah and Pop works the missing girl case, her boyfriend cop, Mario provides protection for Alexis Prince, who definitely is being stalked...
Of course, Rebekah has gotten to know people...one of which is the head of the Russian Mafia, who agrees to get information on who might be dealing in Human Trafficking... Bodies start falling and Rebekah is being sought not only by the police but is now known by all those criminals who are involved!
And just when they find where the young girls are being held, one of the men holding her escapes and takes her with him...
The investigation(s) are well written and the action is fairly hot and heavy right from the first. For me, though, it was the personal life situations of Rebekah that pulled everything together and gave it the emotional impact that touches readers and has them looking for more... McCabe is a winning new series character...
I'm hoping the author takes the time to correct the setting separation issue and I'll be happy to increase the ranking to a five-star response... I'm still going to highly recommend it at this time, based on the storyline itself... Do check it out...
I taught myself to read by age 4 and by age 6 I had started writing my own stories. I published my first novel at age 40, so it only took me 34 years to become an overnight success. Now at age 55, I have approximately 55 novels in print. I'm a single father with custody of a very energetic 10 year old son as well as his three older brothers and sisters. I have a large number of grandchildren and 1 great grand child.
I spent many years doing all sorts of jobs and learned something from each of them. Life is a constant journey and learning experience. Every bruise every scar we bear is a testament to what we have endured and forges us into the person that we are.
All of my characters tend to grow through what they endure, so I have translated some of my experiences into theirs or to imagine theirs. I feel this makes them very relatable to the average reader and makes the reader care about what happens to them. While my mysteries seem to sell the best I still enjoy writing pulp adventure and science fiction and westerns. Look for a new mystery series later this year!
Christine Benedict Brings Spooky Debut of Anonymous - Waaaay Cool!
It was the only house they could afford, but Debra Hamilton could not help thinking that the big old building, in such bad condition that it was black-listed, was...well...spooky! They had gone immediately to work since they only had enough money to stay in their motel room for a month. Things did move quickly with Greg and her both tackling the decrepit building...
It was only when Greg wasn't there that she was more conscious of the noises. Sure, she knew that it was a creaky old house and the weather and outdoor birds and animals would add to what she was hearing... Still, she had to be sure...
She had to be sure that she was not like her mother. The very disturbing reality was that her mother heard things--things that weren't there. With paranoid schizophrenic and manic-depression, both which could be hereditary, Debra was always on edge, wondering and worrying whether she was following in her mother's footsteps.
But when she followed a cat, and found many others in the barn, she gasped, seeing that one was hanging from the barn rafters. She knew it was real. And worse, it was already too late to help it...
Back by the well she pumped water. This won't be bad, she thought. Otto isn't so different from any other pet; we'll be friends in no time. As she filled the bucket, she caught sight of the three hundred twenty pound toddler--what he was up to. He'd managed to get himself hung up against the tree where Greg had tied him... She didn't want to touch him. She didn't want him to touch her. Debra got directly behind him, apprehensive, back far enough to reach his hide. She patted his hind quarter to prod him...He wouldn't budge...
Debra swished the towel at Otto's face, trying to lessen the bugs, and snapped it accidentally in his eye. Otto jerked suddenly spooked. Debra hadn't meant to spook him but she had spooked him and she couldn't take it back. He kicked up his hoofs, bucking like a wild horse, his tree=truth=neck jerking the rope nonstop...
He stood still for a moment, suddenly aware he was free--free to chase Debra..She was already running, knowing full well that she'd been training him for this all summer. She ran on uneven ground, her flip-flops slapping her heels, weeds, waist-high, blackberry barbs stinging her bare arms and legs. She looped around a tree and ran behind the barn, dodging Otto, not like a matador would, but more like the clown sent in afterwards. A clumsy silly no one clown.On this side of the barn, she saw something odd set way back in the field, an old swing set. The image shifted through heat waves like a mirage, abandoned here for who knows how long. Debra widened her strides, but suddenly stumbled, her foot caught in a tangle of vines. She felt her knees buckle. She felt his horn graze her calf. But somehow she didn't fall, somehow she was able to keep her balance and fun. Otto was breathing heavily, she could hear him over her own sinking breaths. It was so hot, so damn hot. This is how we would die, she thought as she ran. He could gore her to death, and they would find her body there. He chased her to the swing set where she climbed up on a rusty teeter-totter seat, and boosted herself up to the center bar that connected the two A-frame poles...
~~~

Debra was just getting used to the place when Greg decided to buy Otto. He thought it would be no big deal for Debra to take care of him while he worked, but there was no way around it, she was scared of him and as he grew larger and larger, Debra was more and more frightened. Still, it was on a very hot day that she saw the bugs swarming Otto's face and had pity on the animal. She accidentally flicked the cloth and he became enraged until he had broken away and began chasing her. She had flashbacks of other times when she thought she was going to die and decided, this time it was for real. But she caught sight of an old swing off in the woods, climbed it and called for help...

The thing was, though, that when Debra was telling Greg what happened, he stopped her and claimed there was no swing set on their property... Indeed, they could not find it! Though, later, Debra did find some of the rusted parts of what had once been there of a swing set... That's when I knew Debra...and I...had both entered The Twilight Zone! Because what was happening in that old house was...truly happening...at least at the time it was happening...

I felt sorry for Debra with her fear of possible psychiatry problems. But I was already convinced that what was happening was outside of her mind...I was ready to agree that these paranormal activities were real... Spoooooky!

And then there was the groundhog she had to kill with a hoe...that wasn't there when they looked for it...

But that wasn't enough to keep readers on edge...

Debra had made friends with Julie, a close neighbor who, as they got to know each other, shared, learning more as friends do. Finally, Julie told her about receiving anonymous letters, which her husband had discovered and was accusing her of playing around whenever she left the house!

And then Midnight, the only feral cat Debra had been able to become close to disappeared...

Debra and Julie were trying to deal with their respective problems and would have a girls' night out at a local lounge... Julie thought maybe the man who was sending the messages might be there and she would politely ask him to stop contacting her. But of course, two beautiful women only received unwanted advances and when Julie was swatted on her butt. she used her left hook to knock him out and they ran! LOL I loved it...

But things got even more serious when somebody was identified as the possible stalker... Julie's husband had left, screaming that he'd kill him... And that night, the suspect was murdered...

And then it was Debra who became the victim...

Suddenly Debra was in her twelve-year old self, sitting in church, wearing her then favorite yellow dress decorated with white flowers...Mrs. O'Shell was playing, Sweet Hour of Prayer on the church organ. This church had given her refuge...Her mother was coming down the aisle now, young and beautiful, her hair dark and flowing. She scooted in next to Debra, beaming with something that looked like love. She touched Debra's brown, her fingers smoothing a worry line. "Pray Debra. Pray real hard..."
The singing stopped. Her mom disappeared. The pew disappeared. Someone was carrying her out of the church. She smelled that sweet honey smell.
She awoke, disoriented, wrapped in the afghan in the back seat of her car, her rifle next to her. The car doors locked. How did she get here?
~~~
One Last Hint...
Benedict has given us a memorable novel that takes us into that unknown world where, sometimes, miracles just might be happening... Or else, you really are in the Twilight Zone! You decide! Highly recommended!
J. S. Winn's Thriller Will Keep You Guessing--Who is the Stalker?!
"Evan's been there for me lately in a
"How do you think it will look to the
Out of the Shadow
By J. S. Winn
J. S. Winn chose to tell her story through the voice of the psychologist for the victim, for an interesting movement back and forth between a professional conference where Sarah Abrams is presenting a paper to her peers, and where those in attendance ask questions about the actual victim and what happened to her... In one way, this established credibility for what was happening to the victim, since a concerned outsider was involved.
On the other hand, readers lose the buildup suspense to some extent... There are also some proofreading issues but they didn't detract...too much...
But not enough to prevent readers trying to solve the mystery of just who...is stalking Becca Rosen...
For as soon as we begin the book we are directly in the scene of a hand pressing down on Becca's mouth, telling her not to move or scream. At first thinking she was in the middle of a nightmare, she struggled but soon realized that the pain was... very real...
It was 3:15 a.m. when he got off of her, got dressed and assured her she had not seen the last of him..
But where had David, her husband, been--why hadn't he prevented this?
Then she found him, called for help, but "His flat eyes told her everything."
Becca Rosen, however, was faced with cops that had her as the number one suspect. No matter how much time they spent talking to her, asking her questions, they just didn't seem to be looking for anybody else. They even questioned whether she had been raped...
Becca had no choice but to try to help herself!
At the same time, she knew she had to move on and make a new life for herself. One new person entered her life just by becoming a new neighbor. Evan was a nice guy and took things easy as they became acquainted. Soon she was confiding in him and becoming a little dependent...
But then she visited her family when her mother called and told her that her younger brother was coming to visit and to please come to dinner. Becca was hesitant not only to go home, but there was something she couldn't quite remember about her uncle that was disturbing. Then when she met him, his cologne brought back feelings of fear and insecurity...
She also, though, was involved in seeing a lot of the people she had known from her home town and couldn't pinpoint what it was she was trying to remember, although she began to have dreams--nightmares that started giving her pieces, some of her memories. One thing she knew, that cologne meant something!
But it seemed that word had gotten around that she had reacted to it. Now everybody smelled the same or at least owned a bottle of the same scent!
As she pieced together events, she realized that she had to start asking questions--even if it meant causing problems within the family...
Some children are able to push memories away if something bad happens to them when they are young. Becca had, but, now, she was almost positive that whoever had raped her and killed her husband, had also hurt her when she was a young girl!
Thankfully, Becca was willing to ask the hard questions...but...he was still out there...
The psychological suspense is high in this novel, especially as the victim is also viewed as a suspect and she must work on her own memories and fears to help herself. On the other hand, a psychologist is not necessarily a detective. There had to be some way to identify the man who warned that he would come back again and again... After all, Becca may not be the only one that he was after!
Could you identify a "stalker" if he lived among your friends or family? What would you do if you discovered that your memories of some trauma had been gone, but were coming back? J. S. Winn places readers right into the position of having to answer these questions. Do you dare confront your memories? Especially when an identity has not yet been made...
The stalker still lurks... Beware!
Amanda Kyle Williams Strikes Terror Again in Stranger in the Room
Stranger in the Room
By Amanda Kyle Williams
Williams does an excellent job in grabbing readers and pulling them in immediately. In this second novel, Keye Street's cousin arrives home, to find a stranger in the house. All she can see is his shadow, and then he raises his hand, puts it in the shape of a gun, pulls the pretend trigger and then turns around and leaves!
Miki and Keye had never really been close, but Keye knew she was family and met with her to find out why she'd call. Miki usually meant trouble, she would drink, do drugs...and more. Keye knew that, with her being sober, it would place an entra burden on herself. But she heard the real fear in her cousin's voice and agreed to meet at Gabe's...
Of course, Miki couldn't begin to talk until Keye had a drink. She explained about somebody being in her house, but that the police had not responded as she thought they should. She needed Keye to help her!
Unfortunately, with her background, there were lots of potential players. And as Keye learned more, there was every likelihood that Miki had a stalker and did need protection...
But in the meantime, Keye had a bond enforcement job...
When Miki was working, she was a top photographer, so Miki grabbed her camera and told Keye she'd go too!
Her objective was one Steven T Wriggles, who had robbed a convenience store... So as Keye tried to cuff him, with Miki circling snapping pictures, Wriggles calmly used his secret weapon... And I know it's not what you think! But let's just say that picture would have gone viral in minutes!
Of course, Keye soon had Rauser involved. Rauser is a cop in Homicide, but is also now in love with Keye, in many ways. One of which is sharing and discussing the various cases that both were assigned. Rauser often called upon Keye's training for psychological profiling, while Keye sometimes needed information only the police could provide. Although that wasn't as much as you might think, because Keye has a very capable partner at her PI agency, and Neil can find just about any information that could be found on computers...
"Larry Quinn said the employee spilled the ashes, replaced
them with cement mix to cover, and accidently got them
mixed in with the chicken feed, I said.
"We could forgive that. As horrible as it is, accidents happen...
When you see the layout of the place you'll understand...
"Joe Ray Kirkpatrick did something to Miss Sheila's remains.
I feel it in my bones and so does Billy. It's not enough to lose
somebody, but then..." She trailed off, her wide eyes filled
with tears.
"I'm sorry. It must have been quite a shock--"
"More than a shock, Ms. Street. It's a downright outrage.
All that chicken feed in Mama's urn. I mean, holy shit."
Billy made the sign of the cross. "Mama hated chickens."
Wouldn't you know it, though, Neil had to accompany Keye out of town on a new case. It started out to seem very simple, having nothing to do with computers. A couple had accidentally discovered that the urn in which a relative's ashes had been placed, clearly had something  different than what should be there... So Neil and Keye go out of town, meeting up with a neighbor close to the Crematorium they were about to visit, and quickly find a willing and funny partner in their investigation. Although the author treated this case lightly and with humor, before it was finished, Keye had witnessed something that she wished she had never seen--and state and federal officials took over...
In the meantime, Rauser has one death after another to investigate...
Keye, in looking over the case files for him, postulates there is a connection...but Rauser is not quite sure her gut feeling is enough to tie everything all together.
Is Keye right? Readers will follow through how each of the murders might have happened, trying to connect and see if they might have a serial killer to capture! I am constantly amazed how writers can weave a web of such intricate design in plotting out mystery and suspense so that we turn page after page willingly to learn more and hopefully solve the case before the ending. Amanda Williams does a wonderful job in doing just that!
Like I mentioned yesterday, when I started reading this novel, I knew I wanted to start at the first book in order to ensure I learned about the lives of Williams' main characters. I've found the combination of Street and Rauser a complete package, enjoying how they complement each other in many more ways than just as lovers. Kudos to Williams for "finding" this couple and bringing them into our lives to meet. I'm already looking forward to the next book, though it will be awhile. In the meantime, I encourage you to consider this series if complex thrillers are on your TBR list! Enjoy this Stranger series! I am...
Amanda Kyle Williams has contributed to short story collections, written small press novels and worked as a a freelance writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She was a house painter, a property manager, a sales rep, a commercial embroiderer, a courier, a VP of manufacturing at a North Georgia textile mill, and owned Latch Key Pets, a pet sitting and dog walking business. She also worked with a PI firm in Atlanta on surveillance operations, and became a court-appointed process server.
“We do what we have to do to keep the lights on while we’re waiting for that big break. Working as a process server and with PI and courier firms in Atlanta was wonderful preparation for developing the Keye Street character. It takes time and work to find that unique voice as a writer, and for that voice to reach pitch. And more time to then develop a character that’s the perfect vehicle for that voice. Keye Street is that character for me. She’s slightly damaged, seriously flawed; a sober alcoholic with a mighty Krispy Kreme doughnut addiction. She makes jokes to avoid intimacy. She’s more afraid of heartbreak than she is of whipping out her ten millimeter Glock. She feels real to me. The series is dedicated to my deeply southern Chinese-American niece, Anna.”
In order to lend authenticity to her Keye Street series, Amanda took courses in criminal profiling and practical homicide investigation, and frequently consults with professionals in law enforcement, bond enforcement, criminal profiling and forensics.
The Stranger You Seek is Amanda’s first mainstream crime novel and the first in the Keye Street series. Bantam will also publish Book Two and Three in the series. Stranger In The Room (August 21, 2012). Don’t Talk To Strangers (Fall 2013).
Amanda Kyle Williams lives in Decatur, Georgia, which produces unending fodder for her fiction. She is currently hard at work on the 3rd Keye Street Thriller, Don’t Talk To Strangers.
Amanda is passionate about animals and has been active in the humane community for many years. She is one of the founding directors at Lifeline Animal Project, a nonprofit, no-kill animal welfare organization. Amanda is also a supporter of The Fugees Family.
