"We Started as Friends" by Alan Jankowski during National Poetry Month...

We Started As Friends

We started out as a couple of friends,
Who saw each other now and then,
Two people hurt many times before,
And afraid of getting hurt once more.

Slowly we began to share long walks,
And share our thoughts in quiet talks,
And of each other we soon grew fond,
Realizing we shared a special bond.

Hearts that harbored so much pain,
They never thought they'd love again,
Secretly wishing that they would find,
Someone to give them peace of mind.

Hearts that searched so far and wide,
For the love that went missing inside,
Souls that roamed long and far,
Wishing upon most every star.

Then one day my wish came true,
I found love again and it was you,
There was a piece missing from my soul,
You were the one who made me whole.

Melissa Foster Shares Latest Release: Sisters In Love With BRH Readers!

http://www.italktofood.com/2011/03/best-feelings-in-world.html
"What on earth was taking so long? In seven minutes they'd
served only one person. The tables were pushed so close to the people standing in line that she couldn't step to the side to see. She was gridlocked. Danica leaned to the right and peered around the massive shoulder ahead of her just as the owner of that shoulder turned to look out the door. Whack!
He elbowed her right in the nose, knocking Danica's head back.
"Her hand flew to her bloody nose. Ow! Geez! She ducked in pain, covering her face and talking through her hands. "I think you broke my nose." Each word sent pain across her nose and below her eyes.
"I'm  so sorry. Let me get you a napkin," a deep, worried voice said. Two patrons rushed over and shoved napkins in her direction...Weren't you looking where--" Danica flipped her unruly, brown hair from her face and opened her eyes. Her venom-filled glare locked on the man who had elbowed her--the most beautiful specimen of a human being she had ever seen. Oh Shit. "I'm...What...?" Come on girl, Get it together. He's probably an egomaniac.
"I'm so sorry." His voice was rich and smooth, laden with concern. A thin blonde grabbed his arm and shoved a napkin into his hand. "Give this to her," she said, blinking her eyelashes in a come-hither way.
"The man held the woman's hand a beat too long. "Thanks," he said. His eyes trailed down the blonde's blouse.
"Really? I'm bleeding over here..."

Sisters in Love
 Book One:
  Snow Sisters
By Melissa Foster

Foster's characters many times may remind you of somebody you know. Not necessarily somebody you like or would want to know, but clearly somebody about whom you will have some type of emotionally strong feeling. She writes about the women around this world, what they are doing, what they are feeling. I enjoyed the first book in the new Snow Sisters series. If you enjoy women's fiction, check this one out...

"Blake Carter listened to the two cougars
whispering about him from behind the ski rack.
He eyed them as he walked toward the front of
the store. The dark-haired one looked vaguely
familiar. The redhead flashed him a smile as he
walked past. He gave her his best over-the-
shoulder glance, holding her gaze. Nice rack,
nice ass. He busied himself behind the counter,
counting up the receipts, glancing up when they
giggled like schoolgirls. He was playing a game,
doing what he knew best. Bur ever since that
woman he'd hurt in the coffee shop noticed him
taking a last glance at the slinky blonde, he had
actually felt bad...
"They're hot for you."
"Blake lifted his eyes to Dave Tuft, his best
friend, business partner, and the best
acroskier he knew. Dave could flip and spin
on a pair of skis as well as Blake could land
women...
"What else is new?"
"Dave shook his head. "So, you goin' for it?
He lifted his eyebrows.
"No, thanks." Blake laughed, wishing the
woman from the cafe had accepted his offer
to buy her a cup of coffee. He could have
made up for the sneak peek at the blonde..."
~~~
Danica certainly had some strong feelings toward the man who had just rammed his elbow in her nose! She was mad!
Until she looked up and saw his face--a face she considered "the most beautiful specimen of a human being she had ever seen."
www.puaforums.com
Then she was mad again. Both at him for looking at another woman while she was hurting... Then at herself because she couldn't forget him!
"She had been a therapist long enough to know what kind of guy eyes another girl while she was tending to a bloody nose that he had caused...She lowered her eyes to avoid looking into his. "I'm fine, really. Just look behind you next time." Not for the first time, Danica wished she had Kaylie's flirting skills and her ability to look past his wandering eyes. She would have had him buying her coffee, a Danish, and breakfast the next morning..."
                                                                 ~~~

Danica knew that she was more professionally inclined while her sister was, frankly, more like the guy who had just rammed her. Wasn't there something in between? Danica enjoyed her role as a psychologist, helping her clients. She had even become a big sister to a young girl which gave her both a giving role and a relationship like no other.  Still, she rarely went out on dates or out at all unless it was with her sister and her friends. One of them was soon getting married and all of the group were taking time to discuss plans...

Blake and Dave Tuft had been friends for a long time and had finally gone into business together. Dave was now married, with a son, so that Blake and he rarely got together for their favorite sport acro-skiing. So while they saw each other daily, Blake was free to keep up his role--as a player...

Dave teased Blake a lot but often got serious and suggested he talked to somebody about his life, even giving him the card of a professional he had heard good things about. But they finally made plans to go skiing  one evening. When they got there, each was psyched, ready to head for the slopes. But then Dave got a call from home...

"Dave took out his phone. "Wifey calls." He held up one finger to Blake. "Hi, honey. Yeah, we made it. Yup, getting ready right now for our first run." He paused, listening to Sally. "Puty him on." Dave turned his back, then spoke sternly into the phone. "Is what your mother said true? What the hell were you thinking?" Dave paced. "You listen to me. If I come home and--" He stopped walking. "Rusty? Hello? Hello!" He looked at his phone. "Damn it." He shoved the phone in his pocket and, as he made his way through the thick curtain of snow that fell around them, Blake noticed him stabbing his poles into the ground and the fine lines forming around his pinched face.
"Everything okay?" Blake asked.
"Lost connection," he snapped. "Gawddamnit. You wouldn't understand. Let's just go."
"Okay, if you're sure." The last thing Blake wanted to do was listen to the details of an argument. He was itching to get onto the slopes.
"I'm takin' the back." Dave's breath came out in foggy huffs. He pulled his yellow goggles down over his eyes and turned away.
"Whoa, the back? Dave, come on. You know how this goes. Warm up. Then, when you're--" Blake watched Dave stomp, not ski, in the direction of the back side of the mountain. Visibility was already an issue. He pulled his goggles down over his eyes and opened his mouth to call to Dave, but he was nowhere in sight. "Meet you at the bottom," he said to himself..."
~~~
Two best friends had started out to ski together. But something happened. Dave decided to take a different route. He never came back alive...
The loss of Dave hit Blake very hard, especially when his wife called and asked him to come over. Blake didn't know how to deal with his own pain--nor the pain of his best friend's family. What was worse, it started to appear as if Dave had been having a secret life. Dave had never shared one word with Blake! And more, he discovered from his son that Dave had been lying to him...
As things moved on, Blake realized more and more that he wasn't able to deal with everything, so he pulled out the card for the counselor that Dave had once suggested... And surprised himself, as well as Danica, when he showed up for his appointment with the woman whose nose he had once nearly broken...
There is lots more going on in the book involving Danica, her sister, and her "Little Sister..." But nothing had her more in turmoil than deciding whether she could really work with Blake, the beautiful specimen who no longer wanted to be the player that he had become...
Relationships... Aren't they wonderful? Aren't they glorious? And aren't they scary as hell sometime? In my opinion, readers will enjoy Danica's emotional roller-coaster as she deals with the issues she faces and realizing for the first time in her life, she, too, wanted to change in some ways. Could she do it and remain a professional counselor? Enjoy this contemporary, realistic fictional look at today's women! I did and recommend you check it out as well!
Maryann McFadden Takes Us Where We Want to Stay!
Mystery Woman
Mystery Woman (Photo credit: Wikipedia)"Books let us into their souls and lay open to us the secrets of our own."  --William Hazlitt
The Book Lover
   Out May 1st!!!!! Pre-order Now...
By Maryann McFadden
Now tell me, would anybody who loves to read not consider reading The Book Lover? Well, I'm here to tell you that you won't go wrong in picking this one! It reminded me of the TV program I enjoyed, Mystery Woman, years ago. Remember? I wish they would use this book to bring that show back--it would make a great movie!
The book also made me think of all those writers I meet who are trying to find a publisher--or those who decided to take the Indie route and have come to find just what that means to the author! Lots of time and hard work! This has a great plot that just may provide some tips to authors--or at least engender enthusiasm and a new drive to do what you have to do to sell your books!
Lucinda Barrett is the author you will meet. She had submitted her novel, A Quiet Wanting, over and over, only to have it rejected. It was the "reasons," that sometimes really got to her, like: "This is a wonderful book, but I was hoping there would be some humor." She had never mentioned humor and getting such a response "was enough to make you crazy..."
And then there was me--oops, no, just because I'd like to own one--A Bookstore, that is!...LOL...
Ruth Hardaway is the bookstore owner of The Book Lover. We meet her as her "calves, which had been complaining for hours, were screaming..." She had been there since 6:30 AM and was fuming about the new hours mandated by the Warwick Revitalization Committee..."She slipped off her low heels, and rubbed her left calf with the big toe of her right foot... She was once again thinking whether or not she should finally give up her store...
I included these short excerpts to give an example of the wonderful flavor you'll find while you read. A book lover like me has, indeed, thought about opening an independent bookstore. In fact, I thought about opening a second-hand store when I moved into my log cabin... But my family felt it would be a bad idea, so I succumbed...and give my books to the library... Writers and readers, I have no doubt, will sink into this book that will be comfortably familiar to them, but also one that will tell the very real story of publishing in today's world...
After that last rejection, Lucinda had once again started to think about publishing the novel herself. But what would she say when somebody congratulated her after they read the headlines, "Dream of Being Published Comes True."? But she did it--just as many others are doing more and more!
And so it was that as Ruth awoke suddenly one night that she went downstairs, fixed a cup of tea, hot and soothing, that she picked up a book on her stack, and pulled out a tiny box that contained one trade paperback, A Quiet Wanting by Lucinda Barrett. Of course, she hadn't heard of it, did not know the publisher. Turning the pages she came to the dedication...and then, taking a sip of tea, she began reading...She embraced her sadness like a secret lover she met each evening on her solitary drive home...
Just like that, Ruth spent hours reading. She had been not only hooked as a reader, but she was hooked as a bookseller!
Now don't think that this is just about writing and selling...that's just how these two women met, who were immediately in tune with each other and became friends, with Ruth asking Lucinda to come for a book signing, and even offering her a place to briefly stay.
Then a man enters the picture--in fact, several...and romantic issues become the predominant plot. And where there is romance, there's normally problems! Especially when a mother, a husband, and lovers collide!
This one is a keeper for my personal library. It includes characters and a setting that are an important part of life. It is charming! It is a very rare book that I know I would enjoy reading again in the future (I don't do rereads or reruns on TV! LOL). Many of my reading fans will undoubtedly feel the same! Maryann McFadden - You've give us a gem, a winner!
About Me
In April, 2007, my originally self-published novel, The Richest Season, sold at auction to Hyperion Books in a 2 book hardcover deal. A writers blog referred to it as “winning the literary lottery.” I had to laugh. Because it implied that getting published was as simple as buying a ticket and waiting for a number to be drawn.
Hah! If only it were that easy. My ordeal in trying to get my novel taken spanned 6 years in total. The Richest Season was shelved in a closet no less than 3 times, as I became frustrated and gave up on the publishing world again and again. But I kept hearing the same refrain from people who’d read the manuscript in a fat 3 ring binder: Your book is better than anything I’ve read in months. Why isn’t it out there? Read the whole article on her web site...
My advice to aspiring writers with a dream is work hard, persevere, and BELIEVE!
Review: Friends 2 Lovers Responds to Lovers of Romance...
Author: BagandeImage via Wikipedia
Friends 2 Lovers
How could that ever be?
When that one you love
Is afraid of what may come...
Friends 2 Lovers
By Jonathan Anthony Burkett
With lots of beautiful poetry liberally spread throughout his book, Jonathan Anthony Burkett's debut novel is the answer to those who love to read romance, especially as young adults.
Claude is the romantic young man who is in love with Kelly. They met early in life and became each other's best friend. Interestingly it is their "best friend" status that makes both afraid of their relationship moving into something more; neither wanted to lose their best friend!
But when Claude lost most of his family through a series of events, Kelly was there for him, helping in every way she could. Claude lost his father and brother in a shooting and Kelly was hoping to keep Claude from seeking revenge and prevent further violence.
Friends 2 LoversClaude had fallen in love, but knew that it was important not to push Kelly too far, still he presented her with a promise ring as she graduated from high school. At that time she was dating Donald a football star and was planning on attending the same college he would be going to. That happened to be where Claude was attending, so each was looking forward to seeing their best friend more.
But little by little real feelings for each other overrode feelings they had for others. And that was not easy because Donald was still wooing Kelly and Claude had met and was becoming close to Brittany.
Tension develops then and then even more later when Donald and Brittany decide to share a relationship...
Burkett takes readers directly into the midst of a young adult relationship. He explores sex, religious beliefs, friends versus lovers through Claude and Kelly, providing readers with intimate conversations as the couple grow closer, learn more about each other, and then as they decide to live together.
Claude and Kelly are enjoyable characters. They tease each other and talk about anything and everything--showing that having been friends first led to a closer relationship romantically? It certainly seems to be the case for these two!
I especially enjoyed the poetry and shared just a few lives above, but the author is obviously a gifted poet who is probably right now sharing another poem with the one he loves! You can just tell that this young man has a love for life that he is or will one day share with his chosen mate. By the time the book is ending, it seems like everybody is hooking up with somebody--including Kelly's Mom!
Looking for a lover, then check out the activities of those who become friends first!
Review: The Friday Night Club! Are You A Member?
The Friday Night Club
By Jacob Nelson Lurie
ISBN: 9781439262474
350 Pages
I had to laugh when I read "Thanks...to my mother and sister who were able to read this as fiction" at the beginning of this book. I have two nephews that were on my mind as I delved into the personal lives of The Friday Night Club by Jacob Nelson Lurie. But I tended to think a lot more truth than fiction, based upon the "guy humor" that we've had to face over the years...no matter that none of us ever got some of the jokes!
Guys are definitely going to love this book that will take them on a memory romp through school/college years or to that special group of guys that "hung out" whenever they got the chance and looked for and hoped for...
So I thought I would just ignore those antics that you will either love or hate, depending upon your age--you know, drinking, parties, girls, girls and more girls.
This is my take on the main character--Davis Robertson, AKA JNLurie! The author gives us a disclaimer right at the beginning: "This is a true story. Aside from the parts that aren't true..."
Davis Robertson is the kind of guy that most good girls seek...and should ignore until he's about 25. Before that, girls will immediately see a sweet, sensitive, gorgeous guy--fear him! Run in the opposite direction, do not allow yourself to get close, to fall for him...
He is nowhere near being able to leave The Friday Night Club and the guys... If you fall in love, your heart will sooner or later be broken!
Davis is 28 when his marriage to Pamela is to take place. He's fallen in love at last and wants to spend the rest of his life with her...
But, of course, The Friday Night Club swoops into town, immediately takes over his life and plan a bachelor party that will end all parties... But, being with all the guys again also takes them down memory lane and, you guessed it, all the young women from the past life of Davis take this time to come see if Davis is really getting married, whether he still has those feelings for "her." Frankly I stopped counting how many there were, but, there was "one" special one with whom he had shared love-at-first-sight. He wasn't quite sure about her. So, of course, she was the one that was invited to be the entertainment at his bachelor party--or should I say bachelor brawl?
Seriously, girls, stay away from young Davis and guys like him...You really need to read this book to know exactly what you might get into... But, gee, my heart's been broken lots of times...and you know, I've not regretted any of those guys! So, you'll probably choose to learn from experience too!
Readers, this is a fun book--to either go back into memories of your youth or to enjoy and "compare" whether your Halloween Heaven and Hell party was as good as the one The Friday Night Club by Jacob Nelson Lurie were involved in!
Perfect spring break book!
Perfect pre-marriage counseling book...ah, just kidding???
In any event, a thoroughly enjoyable, fun, escapism creation that will keep you laughing or crying (probably in different places based upon whether you're a male or female reader) but, certainly, turning the pages in anticipation! Great Read!
