Evaluating LinkedIn's System Programming/Customer Service - Tell Me If I'm Wrong... Share Your Experience...Now With Update and Dismay!

Hi Everybody,

In a recent post, I mentioned that I have been experiencing many problems with online sites...  This is the most recent...

Some of you may recall that I had to stop blogging during a period in which I had four major surgeries: a brain tumor removed, replacement of a hip, and removal of cataracts from both eyes, after which I've struggled with a number of issues with my eyesight--more on that later...

During an earlier period in time, many sites allowed users (and still do) to sign in with another site, for easier and faster access... This was at a time when I kept all my passwords in a log book. I wish I had never started to depend upon Google passwords--that's also another story...

When I write a review, I share it to multiple sites, so it was easier to move from one site to another by using fewer password searches... And, at that time, I also would be asked to submit a backup email in case of a problem in getting into a given site... It rarely was necessary, but I always used my google email as backup since all of my files, for years, had been maintained in two primary aol.com accounts.

When I joined LinkedIn, I set up my account with the name I use for book reviews: GABixlerReviews@aol.com. That has never changed. I had seen what happened when writers used multiple names for different genres and had, in turn, tried to find books by that one author on bookstore sites which had been published under different names. I knew I didn't want to get into that type of confusing situation. I sign all of my reviews as GABixlerReviews, including on Amazon.

My point in stressing this is that I would never have created a second account on LinkedIn... All of my reviews had been posted on one account, all of my connections were/are there, all my experience info is there, all of my endorsements... Get the idea... Why would I need another account?

My hypothesis is that sometime during the early part of being on LinkedIn, I was asked to give a backup email address. I had only one other account which I had used when I worked on a professional review site: Independent Professional (IPReviews@gmail.com). Or, at one time I may have been posting on multiple sites and, routinely, Google's mail address pops up quickly and I might have signed on with the address. Neither of these situations would mean that I had added a different account. Yet, not only was an account created as Glenda Bixler, but it had been designated (1) of (2) accounts and that resulted in a complete loss of access to my original and only account that I created.

On the first attempt to get help, I explained what the problem was, that I could not get to my account because of this prioritization... You can search for these two accounts and you will see that there is very little info on that account. But, several of those I have reviewed books for saw that account and connected there...which led me to get mail at the IP address...which was, frankly, the first time I discovered this new account. At that time, I had not even started to review again after my eye operations, so had no reason to even attempt to go to that site. The individual with whom I talked was very considerate, but told me that what I was describing was beyond his authority to fix but he would pass on my concern.

But, apparently his individual added a popup that I was signing on as GABixlerReviews...At that time, I was getting most of my mail via the GABixlerReviews email, so, I was able to get to my account with this popup... Which has now been removed!!! So why bother? (See my next post)

This photo was taken of my screen this morning. I could not get into my account. I went online and did a general search on GABixlerReviews and LinkedIn... My account showed up...

Now look at the top line and look closely to "me" where there is no picture... As soon as I saw that my picture was there on this other account, I deleted my picture from that account. I attempted to delete the page but could not find anyplace I could do it myself, thus sought help...

The following is my interaction with the second customer service individual... (read from the bottom up if you would...) But, first, this woman claimed that the only way she could help me was by giving her a copy of my Driver's License... Here's why I refused...but she kept requesting it!

1. Driver’s License

What can someone do with a photo of your driver’s license? A lot, actually. Your driver’s license includes a lot of information, including:Your full name
Your address
Your date of birth
Approximate height and weight
Your driver’s license number, which is a unique ID number that might be used for official purposes
A picture of you~ Please note that my picture had been used on this second account...before I deleted it!

I saw no reason for a semi professional/social site to receive this information. I have to wonder, did they even contact the individual Glenda Bixler and ask for her ID information before they "merged" it under me? Using my picture? By what authority? That account has a different email address... Why would I use a different address to receive mail from one site? There is absolutely no logic to the claim that I acted to create an account which they claim is not permitted, even though they did add (1) and (2) which certainly means that it is possible to have two accounts... The problem was that by automatically placing this second account as No. 1, it automatically took control/priority over my real account. IF somebody at LI had NOT done this prioritization, then having that second account probably would never have been known by me (because I didn't create it)... By taking an unknown and new account and placing it as No. 1, the ownership of that account had been changed...if, indeed, that had been me... right? All of my information was on Account GABixlerReviews... Somebody who was not technical would have easily seen that the main account would have all the credentials, right? To me, there is absolutely no way that this was not an error created by programming or staff who were responsible for linking Glenda Bixler to my one and only account... Therefore, to me, it is a technical error that should easily be reversed. If they believed both accounts were mine, then the logic would be that the fully completed and active account would be No. 1 and a later one, that had never been used would be No. 2... As an aside, when I was last on that site, I even saw one account that had a (3) on it... Soooo, whatever that numbering system was supposed to do has to be the problem and should have been easily corrected... If they had said we'll just reverse the numbers, that should fix it, right? Well, I have No idea, because I have no idea how and why another account would be created... and, more importantly, when I attempted to go to my site, I could not get there except by opening my email and entering into GABixler site. You are correct... even if I entered through mail sent to my other address, it would take me to Glenda Bixler...but, I could not then go to my real address!!! No, if indeed this is a merge of two accounts which they assumed??? then why couldn't I go to both sites while I was online... Indeed, when I attempted to go to my original and only site, I WAS ASKED WHETHER I WANTED TO CONNECT WITH GABIXLER!!!

~~~
    It should be noted that changes have been made, some of which helped, but then they disappeared...NO contact other than with a case rep has been made... Yet, there is no way around it, my request to close that case, should NOT have stopped my being able to go to my email and enter through to the correct original account. As of this morning, that is no longer possible...
    Again, logic says that if it was once functioning properly going through my email and I was active on my correct account, then I can only assume that I am being penalized for refusal to share my personal records with what I consider to be a social connection with other writers... And, I have never participated in any of the job-related sections of the site. Many writers work to connect on multiple sites, especially if self-published. I am merely a part of that PR process for authors...
    ~~~
    You know, you continue to imply that I am lying... I have tried everything possible for me to remove an account that was apparently created when I shared my backup email address, which apparently years ago, or whenever this other account was created was done...I hope you are at least talking about the one account that I wanted deleted Glenda Bixler... Tell me, if I had wanted to use it, then why aren't there any posts by me on that account that was made to supercede my original and only account... surely there had to have been some reason that another account was "created" by me... Your company's unwillingness to handle a mistake whether or not you are wrong is really a difficult to accept. Your unwillingness to just close this case is certainly a hypocritical method of saying you are never going to admit anything that you have no idea how and when the account was created... Do you have documentation that I created that account? Show it to me... If I did I would certainly apologize, but in any event I would continue to seek resolution... Your insistence on my using an ID that personally identifies much more than was needed to OPEN that account (in fact, eithr account) is simply ridiculous... Your supercilious manner with which you have treated me, rather than trying to solve the problem, just tells me that you are in the wrong job...

    Hello Glenda
    We do not create any accounts on behalf of our members.
    Its user interface oriented. It will be created only if the user has initiated it.
    Now that the ID isn't been submitted, I am sorry I won't be able to close the account for you.
    As you confirmed, I will be closing the case.

    Thank you.

    I never wanted to merge two accounts! There is only one account that I created. GABixlerReviews@aol.com. Your continued attempts to imply that I created a second account is wrong. It is quite clear that you all are just trying to manipulate me for whatever reasons...I really have NO interest in continuing your attempts to imply that I want this or that...I pointed out that another account in my name had been listed first and had prevented use of my original account. All of a sudden, I'm being made to
    verify something that I didn't create, nor did I ever want merged! Close your Case file...you obviously have no idea what you are doing.

    Hi Glenda A..
    I understand your concerns regarding our request for ID. Member privacy is a top priority for LinkedIn. We need to verify your identity to ensure that we are providing access to the account holder. The system we use for verification processes encrypted scans of your government-issued ID. We'll only hold onto it for a short period of time while we work to resolve this issue. Once resolved, scans and any associated personal information are permanently deleted within 14 days.

    Without ID Verification, we won't be able to procced further.

    Nope! Sorry! I did not create the second account! I have NO idea how it happened. My guess is that at one point I signed in with a google mail account... That in NO WAY should have been interpreted as a new account created by me. For years, we have been able to sign in as Facebook or some other site where we had an account... IF YOU CHANGED THE POLICY, and did not immediately notify ME at my one and only account, then that was your mistake... Not mine... I refuse to use my own personal id to solve YOUR problem. It is frankly unbelievable that your site would even ask for such identification...I am constantly blasted with "verify your identity" on every single site now... how did your programming get into this mess? I don't know nor care... However, you can be sure that when I am no longer able to easily get to my account, that I will be blogging about it and notifying every other site of this mess... Just the fact that you all are unable to delete an account which you now say is against your policy, even though your program allows 1st and 2nd IDs in your own program??? Has to be a lie! Who are you trying to lie to lady? It is appalling that this site in particular suggests that there is no other way to get this corrected. All that tells me is that, other than sharing book reviews to those who are interested, I would never use your services for getting a job... It is quite clear that you all do not have control of your system... If I haven't already stated, I have been working with computers since 1963...I
    have created a facilities management system which was used at a university... To continue to claim that one of MY problems is that YOU can't solve a system problem, is asinine...Do not attempt to try to claim that your programming staff cannot easily delete this account which should never have been created by YOUR staff, however, which way it happened... You all are simply unbelievable!
    Response (01/28/2025 23:13 CST)
    Hello Glenda,
    I understand your concern and I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
    We found that you have more than one account on the site. As a reminder, the LinkedIn User Agreement and Professional Community Policies considers this a misuse of the service. I'd like to help you either merge your accounts together or close the smaller of the two accounts.
    Without Id verification, we won't be able to proceed with any of the requests due to internal polcies.
    I hope you would understand and cooperate with me on the same.

    I am going to seriously think about this request... I DO NOT WANT TO MERGE ACCOUNTS! I DID NOT REQUEST ANY OF THIS ACTIVITY TO OCCUR... I DID NOT REQUEST THAT LINKEDIN DECIDED TO PLACE A PRIMARY ACCOUNT AS SECOND PRIORITY... I DID NOT CREATE NOR DO I WANT AN ACCOUNT UNDER THE NAME OF GLENDA BIXLER. UNDOUBTEDLY IT WAS CREATED, SOMEHOW, BY A MISTAKE. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO PROVIDE WHAT I THOUGHT HAPPENED...FINALLY, THIS IS NOT MY FAULT!!! IT IS THE PROGRAMMING STAFF WHO CREATED THIS MESS. NOT ME.
    AND NOW YOU WANT ME TO GIVE YOU A KEY ID FOR MYSELF?!!! THIS IS MADNESS! NO WONDER THE WORLD IS IN SUCH A MESS... CORPORATIONS OF ALL KINDS ARE DIGGING INTO PERSONAL DATA ON THE BASIS OF SECURITY--MY SECURITY! CRAZY NONSENSE SINCE THIS MESS WAS CREATED BY LI'S SYSTEM PROCEDURES THAT DID NOT WORK AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN APPLIED...
    AS OF NOW, I THINK IT IS BETTER TO LEAVE THIS SITE RATHER THAN ABIDE BY YOUR NONSENSICAL REQUEST. I HAVE BEEN ON YOUR SITE FOR OVER 15 YEARS AND NOW YOU CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
    MY CORRECT SITE AND THE "CREATED" ONE BY MISTAKE? AS A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIION, YOU ARE INDEED LACKING IN SERVING YOUR SUPPOSED CLIENTS.
    IF YOU CANNOT DELETE AN ACCOUNT THAT WAS MADE BY ACCIDENT, BY MAYBE EVEN A HACKER WITHOUT MY GIVING MY ID??? YOU ALL ARE SERIOUSLY LOST IN A COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT IS BROKEN AND SO TIED UP IN PROCEDURES IT IS PATHETIC...
    I WAS ONCE RESPONSIBLE FOR A FACILITIES MANAGEMENT SYSTEM USED BY WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY WHICH MOVED FROM MAINFRAME UNTO VARIOUS TYPES OF
    COMPUTERS...I KNOW HOW TO CREATE A USER-FRIENDLY SYSTEM... I STUDIED VARIOUS FACILITIES AND SCHEDULING SYSTEMS AND MADE RECOMMENDATIONS... UPON MY RECOMMENDATION, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA, IMMEDIATELY BOUGHT SCHEDULE 25 AND IMPLEMENTED IT ON HIS CAMPUS...THAT'S JUST PART OF MY CREDENTIALS...NOW YOU ALL PROVE TO ME THAT YOUR REQUEST IS JUSTIFIED OR I LEAVE AND SPREAD THE WORD...I BLOG, YOU KNOW...AND YES, THIS COULD BE TAKEN AS A THREAT...BUT THEN, I CONSIDER YOUR STATEMENT THAT I MUST
    IDENTIFY MYSELF AFTER USING YOUR SITE FOR YEARS, ALSO A THREAT! YOU ALL DECIDE... I REFUSE TO ACCEPT NONSENSE WHEN I HEAR IT!

    I am sorry, but you are very confused... I just left my REAL location GABixlerReviews@aol.com... and posted there and responded to other posts... It functions properly... BUT I must go into my MAIL to get to this account!
    I have NO idea how the duplicate account was generated... Glenda Bixler...nor do I know if it has changed...I do notice that when I come in from my mail that an auto signin comes up, but then I still have to sign In. Have no idea what that means...
    Ok, I just came in as a search for
    Glenda Bixler Linkedin.com/search/results/all/? and the account is still there and not deleted... However, it has been changed to be "2nd" which was formerly "1st" so somebody has been working on the problem.
    From my standpoint, however, I do NOT WANT my name there at all with a second account... As you can see (or maybe not?) people have signed to connect, and mail is coming through from the address on that account... Without the Middle Initial, most people will mot find my full name and perhaps look no further to connect...
    My email address for reviews is GABixlerReviews@aol.com So I must have the A in my site name as well to avoid confusion...on both email as well as location for connection...
    If you are now as confused as I am, well, I hope this helps... Some things have apparently been done since either before or after I submitted this request. BTW this email was provided by a member when they saw my post of having problems. In my opinion, the process for seeking assistance for technical support should be called something else rather than Help...and then be sent to a long list that has nothing to do with system issues...
    So to recap, some thing have been done... The deletion of Glenda Bixler account has not been. It was left there and just moved to 2nd location as if I had another account.
    You can now come in on a outside location (just checked) and first the pic on the Glenda Bixler account appeared and then moved to the proper pic on GABixler. I must assume this has something to do with the
    1st/2nd activity which I DO NOT WANT... As you can see I have nearly 3000 connections on my original account which has been active for 15 or more years... To have another account which allows duplicate or new connections would be a terrible mistake for my purpose as a book reviewer...
    Soooo, bottom line, after inspection, the Glenda Bixler account must be deleted to prevent duplicate mail distribution, duplicate contact for me to try to keep track of, and an impossible communication process which is
    unmanageable for anybody in my opinion.
    I hope this helps... I have been away from online activities due to 4 major surgeries, which has resulted in many problems for many issues. It looks close to being totally corrected... Once the deletion of the second account is made, let me know and I'll be happy to test it all again... Thank you so much! Glenda

    Hi Glenda,

    Thank you for reaching out to LinkedIn! I hope your day is going well. My name is Caroline and I would be more than happy to help you today.

    I understand your concern and I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. I will help you out accordingly.

    However, I'm really sorry but I can't find an account matching the information you sent. However, I should be able to help if you can send me your profile's web address (URL) and any other email addresses you might have used on LinkedIn.

    There are 2 ways to find your profile URL:

    1. Search for your name at http://www.linkedin.com/
    2. Go to www.google.com and type "LinkedIn" + (Your First and Last Name). For example, if your name is Fred Jones, you'd search for "LinkedIn Fred Jones".

    Once you've found your profile, please copy the web address from the top of your browser and paste it into your reply back to me along with other associated email addresses you might have used on LinkedIn.

    Please note that while a URL can help me locate your account, I won't be able to take any actions on your behalf unless you provide the full and correct email address associated with the account.

    I look forward to your response!

    Your Question: Need Duplicate account deleted. I have tried! This account (I don't know how/when it was established is under name Glenda Bixler...Apparently this account (because it was later???) has taken over as 1st in priority...it now controls the entire account. THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET TO MY ACCOUNT shown above is through email and responding to emails from LI... the 1st acct comes up if I just come in to Linked In... I have attempted to delete mail going to the email of this other account and I still get it...and since I want to respond I'll open the email and it goes/then thereafter controls the entire site activity. Please delete Glenda Bixler as an account...Ensure that my long-term account is reinstated as the only and priority account (delete 1st/2nd, I don't want...that account only has 3 followers so that shouldn't be a problem...) My guess is that at some point, I was coming in via IPReviews@gmail.com in answer to an email... thereafter instead of using this as a second email for my account, a new account was created accidentally (?) I know that I would never create a duplicate account. Note: I have discovered that when the 1st acct is in control, i cannot even get to my second...AND this account then controls all of the buttons used to select action...that is, I cannot post on GABixlerReviews, even if both accounts are listed under my name... Serious problem for me...I routinely post book reviews on GABixlerReviews and I do not want to post on this second account where there are none of my followers... When I originally talked to Help, they told me that the problem would have to be sent to somebody else...that's been weeks ago. Please help me get my one and only account back for continued use of LI. Thank you.

Yes, I got frustrated--mainly because every single online account I use (other than Amazon) has given me grief over the last year (more reviews coming) You know, policies and procedures are usually only made as a guideline. When an extraordinary situation comes up, merely repeating the same thing without any effort to talk to a supervisor or explore options... We can do this instead... in my mind is totally unacceptable, especially from a site that wants to be viewed as a worthy site for professionals... Don't you think? Let's talk... comment and let me know if you've had any similar issues with this site...

Finally, are you concerned about your personal identity? Are you aware that the President turned over the keys to a man who has no official capacity within the Federal Government and gave access to him and his young systems/programming staff to ALL OF OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION! Wake up! Do not allow yourself to be caught in situations where you lose control of personal information. I've learned the hard way and, believe me, I don't plan on ever returning to LinkedIn unless this problem is corrected WITHOUT SHARING MY PERSONAL INFORMATION... Of course, all of it can possibly be found anywhere since Elon Musk now has total access... But it won't be me who gives it to an online site!

Be careful,
GABixlerReviews

Hello Glenda

I understand your concern and I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

I am just following the internal policies of job Glenda.

I understand you are not ready to submit the ID and want us to close your duplicate account.

Without the ID verification, I simply can not continue with your request further.

And my response:
You understand nothing Caroline... And, since you obviously have removed anything that had already been done to improve my situation, I am no longer even able to receive mail and enter my original and only site.

Nevertheless, I have written a blog post about all of your actions on my Open Memoir at Book Readers Heaven. I encourage you to read and share with your bosses... People are already reading about how I've been treated by you in particular... Best wishes that you continue to deny you have nothing really to say by claiming you are sooo sorry you can't help, while ensuring that everything has gone backwards! Worse than ever before!

I'll be adding this exchange to my post, dated as an update... It's not nice to be nothing but a follower of rules, without any type of ability to learn to think for yourself...except for retribution... We're having a lot of that at the highest level these days...
