The day he walked into Andre’s in Midtown, all he was hoping for was a brief respite from the heat and his followers. What’ll it be,” asked Andre, a formidable black man with a booming baritone voice.
“Yes, please, could I have a beer and a glass of vodka…a double please.” Andre smiled as he considered Igor. Another white customer who, after his eyes became adjusted to the dark, would probably realize this wasn’t his kind of place. Andre smiled and said, “Are you sure you wouldn’t be more comfortable up the street at Manny’s?”
Igor processed Andre’s question and then said, “Perhaps I could buy you and your customer a drink for any inconvenience my presence might cause?”
“Ain’t no inconvenience,” said Andre, drawing Igor’s beer. “But you could buy us a drink just to be friendly.”
“Yes, then please. I will do that,” said Igor with a slight smile.
After serving Igor, Andre served himself and Robert at the end of the bar, who was watching a baseball game on TV which had just started. They both saluted Igor as they raised their glasses and took a drink. Andre wandered back down the bar toward Igor. “Ya know, began Andre. “I’ve always wondered. When I was a young guy, I was in the army in Kansas. One day I walked into a white bar out near the base, by myself, just to see what would happen, ya know? But I had my uniform on and it was a fort town, so I guess it wasn’t a good test. Anyway, I know why I did it. Nothing happened but over the years, I’ve always wondered why a white man would walk into a bar, see that he was the only white man, because this is Midtown and people walk in here by mistake all the time, you understand, but they always always leave. Anyway, like I said, seeing that he was the only white man and decided to stay. Now, I’m Andre and this is my bar and you’re welcome here if I say you are, understand. But I was just wondering that’s all.”
“I am being followed…by white men,” said Igor. “If they come in here, I will know the nature, degree of their surveillance. If they do not, at least I can have a drink in peace.”
At that moment, two white men entered and approached the bar. “What’ll it be?” asked Andre.
“Two beers,” said the first one. “We just ran outta beer,” said Andre.
(Enjoy the music and the setting. Igor spends a lot of time at Andre's.)

Following World War II, several independence rebellions took place in the Soviet Union. Throughout the Balkans, The Red Army fought pitched battles with partisan rebels to put down these insurrections. The Soviet MGB State Security apparatus worked internally to infiltrate and destroy the rebels. Other deep cover operatives worked independently of their efforts. Rumors of atrocities on both sides of the conflict were common.
Vorkuta Camp 12 within Arctic Circle Where Volchev was Held
Colonel Vitas Marco had been warned, Volchev could be most aggravating. It didn’t help that they had so much in common. Both he and the prisoner were of non-Russian origin, skilled in languages, and trained in intelligence. Volchev’s path led him to prison and the labor camps, while Marco’s had made of him a rising star in Soviet Intelligence.
As he studied his file, so it had seemed of Volchev. That is, until Korosten. In thirty minutes, it would be over. The need for this final debriefing seemed ridiculous. It seemed more of an administrative task. Therefore, Marco assumed that somehow, he was being tested. One could fairly say that might have accounted for his ill-temper that day. But Volchev had become something of a legend in his confinement. How he now dealt with this situation would be watched. Or, perhaps, the lesson of Volchev was being taught to him. If so, it certainly was in the nature of a warning. Two things were clear--first, he would be acquainted with both Volchev and his story; and second, if his selection for this task had any further relevance, that would remain to be seen.
It was July 1975. Igor Volchev had defended a pair of Soviet officers in an illegal trial by Ukrainian partisan rebels after World War II. Many Soviet states had rebellions following the war. The rebellion in the Ukraine began before the war ended. Mainline Soviet forces were held in reserve, waiting for the treachery the Soviets anticipated from the British and Americans.
The rebellion forces were waiting for it, too. They were forming an infrastructure to support an invasion from the west. Their reward: Independence following the break-up of the Soviet States...

Even as WWII was ending, involved countries were working to readjust after all that had happened. The Soviet Union, itself, was being attacked internally as rebellion forces began to seek a permanent separation from the Union. One of those rebellions was by partisan rebels who were taking the opportunity to seek freedom from the totalitarian government... now known as Russia.
Indeed, if you are watching the daily news, you know that Ukraine had succeeded in becoming a separate entity and is now a democratic country! With Russia still trying to recapture the parts of the Soviet Union that became independent... Because of this, the president of Russia has been declared a war criminal and fighting continues, with Russia targeting women, children and moving toward more and more violence daily.
This is not a new situation, as Jack Savage begins his story based upon one single former Red Soldier, Igor Volchev, a former NKGB Colonel, who had returned to Ukraine and taken a position in the judicial district of Malin on the rail line between Kiev and Korosten.
A raid had occurred led by two Soviet Officers--a raid that took place. However, the details of what happened were to be hidden. Volchev had been told to write up what happened. He did... The Official Report - It was complete disinformation, albeit eloquent in many ways... The result: instead of being killed like others who were involved, Volchev was imprisoned in the harshest camp, Vorkuta, for life.
Time passed and men who crave power begin to look for "a story" that can be used in some way... While, at the same time, family of former military action want to learn more about their relatives and what happened to them. And so it was that a nephew, Edward, found that his uncle had been the writer of The Official Report. And the Report had been accepted as...the Truth!
Suddenly, Volchev was in the spotlight, he was sponsored by an American and brought to live in total freedom... Or so it seemed. Yet, Igor had already determined that he had followers from various agencies...
While I was reading this novel, I had a flashback to a series by James Houston Turner who had created a character called Talanov... I had such fun reading those books and loved the hero character--the link by the way is his created credentials and a short excerpt from one of the books...
I admit I had the same reaction to Volchev! While in an entirely different way. This is not an action character. Rather, he is just what exactly you would expect for having been in one prison or another for over 20 years! He's very intelligent, yet cautious, with instincts to constantly be on watch, trying to determine exactly what and why whatever was happening would involve...
He's still an attractive man even after his incarceration! In fact, he really didn't look like he had been in prison--so what happened, readers wonder. Especially, the recent widow who had sponsored Volchev's immigration to America... She watched as Volchev would daily go out for a walk--she assumed it was to acknowledge the freedom of being able to do so. He normally refused the money she offered, even though he had none. She would forced him to recognize his need to have money even to buy a cup of coffee... Yet his independence, his need to remain a loner, was fascinating to her. At that point, she didn't know that he was being followed. Nor do she know that Volchev suspected that there was a reason for his being brought to America, and it wasn't because of the appeals of his family...
Volchev was right to question exactly what was going on! Readers will learn a little more, practically on each page, but just enough to keep us reading. A little bit historical drama with lots of suspense as we gather the teasers of someone who is living through becoming among the rich and famous, while still maintaining the hesitancy, the fear, the need to be on guard, after being imprisoned for nothing more than writing exactly what he was told to write... I found myself thinking about all the lies that are coming out, even more so these days, because of our social platforms. Still, if you can build on the truth, the reality, you can begin to imagine... the why of being allowed to leave prison and travel to America...
And that's what Jack Savage has given us... Forcing us to stop, pay attention, study the background, locate the power structure and who is in control and where it might be leading... I was hooked because of the tease, the minor moves forward, only to have a complete twist come toward the end that caught me totally off guard.
And full disclosure here... I was a final unpaid proofreader and formatter of this book--not an editor. There was little to be edited since the author had covered everything so well that I became involved with the story, even reading it a second time for content and still not knowing how it would end... As you know, I love that type of book! Savage keeps our interest, and attention... but still manages to surprise us in a drama that is so very much rooted in the political environment that Russia presents to the world today!
I consider this the best of the best for the author. While the plot setting is entirely within the United States, it does reveal the real need to not under-estimate what the Russian government or its representatives is capable of doing, even if it is to just about "one" former Ukrainian Colonel who dared to tell the truth...
A unique perspective of those who are living as citizens in a totalitarian country. It is enlightening to see what happens when those who crave power are willing to move toward gaining what is wanted... It's a timely, yet an alternative drama of living within the power structure of an authoritarian, at any political level... The detail is sufficiently specific to actually feel like you are the investigator striving to solve the puzzle... A Tantalizing mystery!
Author's Note: The earlier cover selected could not be used. This cover is another of paintings by Savage...
Elder Care Tip - I've been enrolled in Walmart's online services which includes shipping, pickup or delivery. I've recently been invited to be a customer representative for this activity. I can already tell you, it has saved me a lot of heartache and worry... I have used all three options and with few problems, I have been very satisfied... If you have any suggestions or concerns, let me know and I'll try to see if my new role includes help with your issues!
In this. his fourth book and a poetic memoir, Manny Moreno worries--he does not want to have those of our indigenous nations ever be forgotten. For America, it is good that we can meet and come to know the Elders, those who can speak with experience for himself and his people. It is doubtful that I will ever forget Manny in my lifetime. He is constantly sharing his words, sharing his past...Yet, those who have come to know and love him, we will never have enough time with him... I've been with him through much time...and books...he has written... Over 10 years!
Longview Road begins, first, with a display of the photography by Moreno as the book cover. His ability to catch a period in time is caught again and again as an Elder of the Yaqui Indians, again brings us his memories, his family, and the reality of his life through various artistic mediums . Readers will see that his early life was hard--he succumbed to drinking as many of his peers did during those times... But was it liking to drink or liking the escape from what he and others endured... If you pay attention, the indignities of the white man hover over his thoughts as he shares how he fought his way through to become a role model to be recognized and respected for all that he has shared to us through his books...
For instance, he speaks of those working to pick grapes in the intense heat when the crop was ready to go to market...It was bad enough to bend over daily, the sweat running down their backs... but to be humiliated further, the growers refused to provide any type of restroom facilities. These little twists to share the emotional impact are delivered with a punch... And who among us cannot hang our head in shame, knowing that the growers were white owners...
Still, often, such as the poem shared above from his latest book, he takes the time to share his world--God's world, his ancestors' world, stopping just to gaze and admire the flight of a hummingbird, even while he worries...will he be remembered? Will his Yaquai family...and Nation survive and be known? Remembered? Certainly this is a primary goal of Manny's life.
I'm a little older than Manny, but one of his poems was reminiscent for me, as I remember my brother always watching cowboy movies... Manny remembers too, he remembers that the Indians always were played by white people and were always killed. Indeed, even in schools, they were taught that their ancestors were savages and that "their" God would forgive them, even while also teaching that their God had been crucified--much like the Indigenous people? But their elders would say: "Never Forget! Never Be Ashamed."
But then there was at least Tonto...
I listened to grandpa and understood him well
but I never saw Indians in any movie
high-jump that bar to portray them fully human
except for Tonto who wasn't really dumb.

Drinking, growing up in his home town, working in the hot sun to harvest tomatoes and grapes--and so much more. But the one that was most memorable for me was "The Pain of Forgiving..." I am reminded that, today, in this world, most eyes are turned to Ukraine, seeing the devastation there caused by just one man... Americans are responding in many ways to meet the needs of the affected people... So, why don't we also want to do the same with those here in America who daily worry about where they will find the way to eat, to pay the bills for the small home where they live (or no home, even).
You know, folks, President Biden has created the most diverse Cabinet, I would think, than ever before. He has put together a budget plan to meet the needs of all Americans... yet republicans refuse to participate in making significant financial support across the nation. They would rather not spend research time and effort to actually build a solid platform for the people. Instead, they have chosen to incite parents, in particular, into believing what they are saying... all disinformation which can be proven if each of us makes the concerted effort to be the Americans we are supposed to be... Specifically to recognize our common creed as written in our Constitution...
All Are Created Equal...

Do I forgive Mr. Nelson

If we continue to ignore our needs in America,
can we really Call Ourselves Americans?!
Imagine what it feels like to have waited for a president who would work to meet the needs of all Americans...and then see that, because of political issues, your help will not be provided...not again...just like in the past... Why is Congress--the republicans--not approving What Americans Voted for in 2020
Meeting the Needs of America!
Moreno shares about the choice he had to make, ending with, "There was nothing, nada, not a thing, not there for me, I had to find a way out, or rot, and die...
Are we allowing too many issues to be pulled into the spotlight when the needs of our elders, our children are being ignored?
Read Longview Road and other books by Moreno...and learn just how badly we Americans, we white men...and...women... still refuse to acknowledge that they are NOT the only people living (and hurting) in our nation...

Find Manny on Facebook, Connect With Him...He routinely contributes and shares his history, his words, his drawings...and so much more! All for Sale for this Elder Entrepreneur. Check out my reviews for his four books... You will find a wealth of Indigenous History from this one Elder... Read Him!
Manny recently sent me the last painting above. I had not seen it before and he chose which, of his many available paintings or drawings, that are available for purchase... It is titled "In The Eyes..." I quickly changed it in my mind to "In His Eyes..." I believe this is a self-portrait, empathizing all that he has to tell us... There is pain, endurance, and love of his ancestry...but is there forgiveness? Can we expect him and others to forgive what we did to our "neighbors" as we colonized America? I personally think we should try. There are many indigenous people who have little support, other than what they can scrape together from field word, or with their talent, like Manny has. If you have contributed to the Ukrainians or other foreign countries, such as Africa's cry for children...then, please, please...look at his eyes... Find some way YOU can help...even if it is just committing to writing your republican representatives and say that you want to have them support the Build Back Better bill for support of our elderly all over, no matter what race...and our children...again, no matter what race...
Native Americans value their ancestors as part of their lives... Let us recognize that our ancestors put together a promise, called the Constitution, that said that All Are Created Equal. Let's all try harder to let those in need begin to have the support that our Creed Promised Them! Look at His Eyes... Look at The Eyes...all those who are in pain, hurting, needing some type of support... right... here... in... America!
Elder Care Message - Right Now, many of you may know of an elder person who is in need. Perhaps it's for food, medicines, household tasks...or even just a need to have somebody talk or call them occasionally. Commit yourself to helping the older American... And, if you'd prefer to get involved with our young, then there are orphanages or perhaps neighborhood children that are not getting enough to eat... Perhaps the parent needs a baby sitter...and you're in need of "giving something back..." Think about it, it takes little effort to acknowledge, to commit part of your time to those in need...
Matthew 25:40 New International Version
"The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me...'
,,,Franklin understood the inherent value of virtue in society, apart from what it was that made one virtuous, whether religion or simple cultural habit, or a combination of the two.
I believe this is a good historical perspective of the time and writing of the Constitution of America. It seems to cover most of the relevant issues, except... reality...
Today's Reality
People must understand that their responsibilities as citizens are so serious as to be vital to the democracy itself. If the voter is not voluntarily selfless to some extent, and does not merely think of himself but of others; and if he does not think just about the present, but about the future, it all falls apart over time. Self-government will not work unless the citizens bear the responsibility to vote in such a way that continues their freedoms and their ability to have free elections, that continues their economic prosperity. They have to vote in a way that does not trade the future for the present.
How long did it take us to get where we are today? Perhaps it lasted only for a short time? Or, perhaps a century later we begin to see how it really impacts us...
Two issues are dominant for your consideration.
Constructing the Constitution was not an easy task. Yet it was created within 100 days! OK, let's face it, it is rare that anything substantive goes through Congress in as many days. Is that cause for alarm? I think so.
One of the issues was that of slavery... Many of those involved owned other people, called slaves. They were treated as less than human and for their representation? Well, that in itself is mind-boggling... You see, there was significant division among the members, specifically how slaves would be "counted..." Could it be that gerrymandering had already begun?
It was in fact the northern, antislavery states that wanted to put this in the document. That’s because the “slave states” selfishly and cynically wanted their powerless slaves to count toward their states’ official populations—so that these states would have more power in Congress. Because the number of representatives in the House of Representatives goes by a state’s population, counting slaves would give much more power to the slave states.
If slaves were counted, those who owned them would get more power, and of course, the slaves would get none. The northern free states knew that that was wrong. But in order to move ahead, they were forced to compromise, eventually deciding that the slavery states could count their slave populations as three fifths of what they had wanted. So quite contrary to what is often understood, the three-fifths clause was a hard-fought victory for the free states over the slave states. Like many compromises, it had its ugly side...
Could it be that, even after decades of continued disagreement, we are now even more so dealing with the issue of the Black vote, as many republican states are acting against what the constitution guarantees, so that they are making it harder and harder for many individuals, including black voters, to actually be counted in our elections? Lies are being used--the election was rigged, a fraud, and The Big Lie continues to this day as the former president and his republican supporters deny that the election could not possibly have been correct. As we know, the Black Vote for Biden carried him through to The Big Win... And every action which is being taken is an attempt to stop what the country clearly wants...
So what happened to get through the monumental disagreements that needed to be negotiated. Well, once again, the knowledge that God had a hand in what was happening turned the tide... Members began to concern themselves with the good of the many--the good of the country--rather than their own self or state's goals... And after getting it done, it was still not enough. Because, the words of the Constitution had to carry the United States into the future! Into 2020, 2022, and beyond...
If you are an American, you have tacitly agreed to join that group, to keep the republic Franklin spoke of that day. You might say that I’ve written this book to inform you of what you’ve gotten yourself into, because we really ought to know. In fact, if we haven’t known about this, and most of us have not, there has been a profound disconnect in our relationship with our country. If we Americans cease to know that we are part of that group charged with the terrible and wonderful burden of keeping this glorious promise, the promise is already being broken and will soon be irrevocably so...
That flame was passed from them to others, who passed it to others, who passed it to others—and it is at this moment in history in our hands, yours and mine. The burden of “keeping it,” as Franklin said, is excruciatingly important. And here is the main reason for that: Once it goes out, it goes out forever. If the flame given to us goes out, we not only lose the light ourselves forever but will also lose the ability to pass it along to all those others who are waiting for it. That is what makes keeping it so important and the thought of letting it go out so terrible and tragic...
A second issue considered was that of our country being seen across the world as a place where freedom existed. As a leader in the Creation and Ongoing liberty available here in America, even the French and other countries saw what was happening...and that is when "She" arrived on our shores... a gift from France highlighting the welcoming arms of America to immigrants from all countries...all nations...
We even shared words to that effect: Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Huddled Masses Yearning to be Free! And our arms have been opened for decades, for centuries... And so, as America we lifted our arms and hearts to those in need of support, just as we are doing for the Ukraine citizens who are being forced from a war led by an autocrat in a country that is not...free...
I hope you've learned enough about what this book provides--a look back at the beginning...and then moving on into specific issues of whether that democracy can exist forever... Right now, we are, perhaps, facing one of the most important times in our history.
“America is the only nation
that is founded on a creed.”
America is still the only one that can be described that way? And yet it is. And the creed upon which it is founded is not a parochial creed but a universal one, declaring that all men are created equal and that government exists only by the consent of the governed. As President Truman put it, “Being an American is more than a matter of where you or your parents came from. It is a belief that all men are created free and equal.” This touches upon another way we are exceptional. We do not give preference based on one’s family or one’s race or beliefs. We are a merit-based society where people of every background can rise as they please. Of course, there are caveats to this idea, but the truth is nonetheless overwhelming.

So, right now, let's look at some of those caveats of today's history...

Let's again look at the main issue that allowed America to be formed... Religious Freedom. Consider this, Folks, Religion is what gave most us our moral code--the belief in and commitment to basic humanitarian goals. America became The United States of America... With One Creed:
It is a belief that all men are created free and equal.”
All are created Free and Equal
All are Created Free and Equal
All are Created Free and Equal
All are Created Free and Equal
So where does that leave us now? Well, here's what I see... The Caveats (a warning or proviso of specific stipulations, conditions, or limitations) Have Gotten Out of Control, especially in the last 5 years, but also starting within the 50 last years as stated by Metaxas.
Personally, I started watching when Trump was elected... I was one of those women across America that could not believe that a presidential candidate who talked about grabbing women's genitals, could also be running as a republican...Then talk about how many women have filed abuse suits against him, together with the two most prominent who became top news about his affairs... But that didn't seem to matter, especially to the Evangelical Christians... I kept digging, doing my research, and learned that a deal had been struck... Trump would support the issues of importance to Christians (whatever they were, certainly not the words of Christ who told us to love our neighbors)... and then he could do anything he wanted...
So, what do you think the creators of the Constitution did when they heard that? Yeah...they're turning over in their graves! I've included a series of videos above in case you want to check them out... It begins with the deal-- and moves upward until the Insurrection on January 6th... And the Christians apparently still support him, right?
Wrong...Not me! And many others... We took what America stood for... Our Creed: All...are Created Free and Equal. That means, to me, when Black athletes take a knee in protest because the legal system discriminates against Blacks...that I also take a knee...
That means when Jewish synagogues are attacked because of their religion or ethnic background...that also affects me and my creed...
When lies are made to prevent those seeking asylum into America, even to the extent that children are taken from their parents...and lost in the system, where they are still being hunted...that affects me...
And when the Justice System also tried to prevent the Mueller report from being accepted based on the truth...that vote to show guilt of impeachment for Obstruction of Justice is made by me because I believe in our Creed...
And when money was held back from Ukraine, even though it was approved by Congress, then I also vote for impeachment 2...
And surely you all know that I believe I voted correctly in the 2020 election, freely and in support of the Constitution... And condemn all those involved with the January 6th Insurrection... Because It is Not in support of our Creed.
One major thing I did have come out of reading this book. I became more of an American than I Ever Have Been. Because when you are confronted with the reality of what is happening in America--Right Now! Then you Must also face, that we no longer are considered free and equal... And until those who are doing what they are doing...STOP... America as a democracy cannot stand...
Thanks to all of you who have been reading my articles about the book, If You Can Keep It. This is my final article.
I am more convinced than ever that America is facing a crisis that is uniquely one that no other country can ever face...
We have failed to keep freedom of religion as a right, a privilege,
and the creed of America...
Why Do I Say That...
Because it can't be both ways
We open our arms, our land to all, regardless of...
ethnic or religious background
But, we apparently want Christianity as a State Religion?
No? then why are we allowing Non-Christians, as well as those of ethnic backgrounds to be Terrorized, with religious houses of worship being targeted by domestic terrorists... and the recipients of Violence, so that even the Capitol of our Nation can be Destroyed by Insurrection?
A Final Note:
I Am A Christian
And I do NOT support anything revealed in any of the Videos (and more)
America is my country, Not My Religion
I respect America's Creed to Ensure Ethnic and Religious Freedom for All!

Why did it feel as though I had no control, like someone else was pulling my strings? I could feel it in the bodyguard, Ellen’s resistance toward me. Hell, I could feel it in the walls. Something was off in this place. But I didn’t have another choice. If I wanted this career— if I wanted to work—I had to move ahead with my plan. Even if I had to force it.

I've said it before--I love books! And this one was perfect for me... Why? Well, indeed, it is a perfect book! I got it as an ebook, but that made no difference. The formatting was, yes, perfect--with no errors within the book!
But that's not all, there were extra small touches to the book that makes me know that the writer is concerned about the gift she is giving us...even if we buy it ourselves... Little hearts, chapter breaks with an extra page...with a artistic icon, just to allow the reader to stop and enjoy the book and its story! Way Cool in my opinion! I've become a fan and have already purchased the other two books in the trilogy...
Deception--it seems like it is everywhere these days. This time, the author takes readers into the Art world--a place where there are countless ways to deceive...but Richards has taken it a step beyond what might be considered norm. She has also taken us into the world of the supernatural, the paranormal, which always adds a touch of excitement beyond the usual criminal actions, don't you think?
Madonna and Child by Bellini
Addie Montgomery was down to her last ounce of stability... She'd lost everything, including a lover that she was quite happy to be rid of... But, losing her job was a traumatic experience, for anyone, especially with her love for being in the art world, seeing all of the beautiful images that had been created by so many great artists, past and present.
She had an interview set up, even though she was not sure she wanted to work there. It was a problem because her father and grandfather had both disappeared while working there. Addie's memories was full of the past visiting with her family members... And she considered Otto, the last partner of the gallery, a close friend. Besides she felt he owed her this job as a research analyst.
When she arrived, she met Ellen who had been with the firm since her early years of involvement. Now, Ellen seemed to resent her presence--she would have to find out why later when she had the chance--to "read" something she owned and explore her history... Nevertheless, when she arrived, Ellen escorted Addie into Otto's office to wait until he was finished with another meeting. There she saw Giovanni Bellini’s Madonna and Child. She could spend hours just enjoying and analyzing this famous piece of art. But sooner or later, she just had to...read...the... history... So while she waited for Otto, her finger touched just a small corner...it was an original! She saw scenes of Venice in 1480... Suddenly Otto was behind her, and she jumped, sliding her hand casually down to her side...
Addie questioned, "Isn't It?" , even as he told her it was a copy, wondering what she would be told. Otto again denied that it was an original... And that began the intrigue Addie would experience as she was hired and started working for The Albrecht Firm. She was thrilled to be working again, and hoped she could find clues there as to what happened to her family...
Addie was a psychic, with maybe even more gifts, but the only other one she had learned about was her ability to see ghosts. She was afraid of ghosts, even now as an adult. But her primary passion was to learn about people, objects and just about anything she could touch, including the walls of a building. But because of her abilities, she turned them off and on, in order to manage her life activities... And, then there's Jack, her dream lover from an earlier life...
Like a vision out of 1920, Jack, this beautiful man from my past, wears a pale blue button-down shirt that sets off his striking blue eyes and blond hair, slicked and styled with a side part. On his face is a rakish grin. Light pours in from beyond the French doors, surrounding his head like a heavenly aura, and the red-and-gold silk curtains frame his figure. He is like an elegant John Singer Sargent painting. I look forward to my regular visits from him. The dreams vary, the scenery changes, our discussions evolve, though he is always deliciously the same. Today we’re at a garden party, but we’re inside. The sounds of chatter and laughter filter in from outside. We’re alone, together. The rest of the world ceases to exist. The heat coming off him burns against my skin, even though he stands across the room.
I look down to see that I’m wearing a blue silk Delphos dress with Venetian glass beads on the sides—my favorite color and material. He’s walking toward me, and my breath catches. Jack’s an incredible vision. And the love he emanates is so all-encompassing it makes me dizzy. I feel safe, understood, and loved. “Did you see it?” “See what?” “How could you miss it?” He chuckles at my cluelessness as he circles around me, wrapping an arm around my midsection. I sink into his embrace. His warm cheek touches mine as his other arm slides beneath my own, raising it to point at a portrait over the fireplace. I gasp as I behold a large oil painting of myself wearing sapphire blue, my own blue eyes staring back at me. I feel the rise of his cheek against my face. His smile is brimming at his success at taking my breath away. The colors in the painting vibrate, the rough brush strokes alive with memories. It pulls me forward through time. My companion fades, and my chest aches with the emptiness where he once had residence. His absence is too painful to remember.
Years pass in blurred strands of color around the edges of my vision. I hear crowd chatter, and a distant, slightly warped record of Duke Ellington playing “It Don’t Mean a Thing” serenades me as the painting comes to rest in the overcrowded stall of what appears to be a swanky Paris flea market.
Then, from somewhere outside my conscious world, I realize he’s back. It’s him. The man with the steel-blue eyes and the cream-colored suit is walking slowly toward me. I stand up to greet him. He reaches me and runs his hand over my hair, brushing it lightly off my face. “You’re here,” I say. “I am here,” he says, his fingertips grazing up and down my bare arm. “We don’t usually meet here. We usually meet there, where we used to be.” He says nothing, but a slow smile widens across his face. The love I feel for him spreads throughout my chest.
“We’re going to meet here from now on,” he says with a smooth voice, a knowing look in his sparkling eyes.
“Why?”
“Because it’s time.”
“Time for what?”

Addie was to exhausted from the...deceptions...of her recent past, so that when she was introduced to Blake by Otto, as someone with whom she'd be working, she was afraid...very afraid...because she was immediately and intensely attracted to him. But, exactly, who was he...and could he be trusted? Can anybody be trusted? Yes, she was told that by the ghost that was following Blake around--and it was obvious that he'd been... murdered!
The concert by Vermeer
Addie has one other character, a sister, Alexi, who also has gifts. She is able to help Addie work and think through all that is happening... Thankfully... Because before the book ends, she's going to be scared! Very scared! And during that time, she discovered exactly what was going on...
I'm already into the second book, couldn't wait. (One of the reasons I'm loving ebooks more and more, just download and you can start reading in a minute or two!) You've now met most of the main characters. As you read, you can begin to look for deception. Because as the ghost warned, "“You might want to think twice about who you spend your time with.” By the way, his name is Frank and "was" a member of the mob... Yes, the Mafia is here!
Loved this book from "cover to cover" (although I do miss a back cover blurb)... Past life, psychics, ghosts, and other paranormal gifts, merge effectively and completely into a tale of criminal activities within the art world featuring many of the great masters... And the major theft of many from a major museum will begin and run through, maybe all three books! I Can't Wait! If you're into sitting back, relaxing, and just enjoying...go get this trilogy and plan to read it in a weekend!

Ok, I had to add this last painting...look at it closely, besides the cat, bodies are falling from the Tower... Wow!
Elder Care Tip
If your walker is not on wheels, you can buy what looks like little sleds to provide easier movement. Be careful, though, they will catch on wires and other items without your knowing. Still, I wouldn't want to be without them on my primary walker. I got mine at Amazon...
