Review: Mythology, Bible History, Fantasy Merge in Great Series!

Guardians of The Immortal Realms
By Ruby Moon-Houldson
E-Book Time, LLC
ISBN: 1598240145
184 Pages

I hope that you have already read Book 1 in the Guardian series by the time you read Guardians of The Immortal Realms by Ruby Moon-Houldson, although each book does easily stand on its own.

However, Book 2 explodes with action based upon what has already happened, so be prepared! As I read Book 2, I got more of the sense of the overall scope of this series. The books definitely have a feeling of Greek Mythology, using fantasy and Biblical historical tales liberally. The combination is impressive and very well done and each book follows and builds excitingly on what has already occurred!

By now you know that Christopher and Jadyn Varatoo had a child. He was conceived when Christopher was still a vampire, albeit a good one. You also know that Jadyn and Christopher have both been forgiven because they have proven the purity of their love and their faithfulness. One of the ways they proved their faithfulness was by being willing to surrender their child after only a few months!

In Guardians of The Immortal Realms, their child who has lived in the timeless upper realms has grown to be a man, looking very much like his father. At first Jadyn was afraid, Reuhial seemed distant but Christopher assured her that he had a job to do and that she should give him some time. As Reuhial watched the love flow continuously between Christopher and Jadyn, he recognized that love and was drawn toward them, even as he was drawn toward the Great One.

And that was not surprising because during the time Reuhial was with them, Christopher and Jadyn became even closer in their love—Christopher discovering that Jadyn had a small part of The Great One deep inside of her and Jadyn learning that Christopher was closer to being the pure one he once was. One of the gifts given them was the ability to talk to each other telepathically.

Reuhial had a specific assignment. As part vampire, he was destined to be the liaison between The Benevolent Ones and The Great One, who could not interact directly with them. These were vampires who had been exiled to the middle realm, who had initially followed The Evil One, but who had realized they had done wrong and indeed still loved The Great One. They were able to “feed” on the essence of humanity without feeding on their blood and over the thousands of years had done as much as they could to atone for their actions by helping humanity and fighting the evil vampires in the middle realm.

And in the middle realm, there was murders taking place all over the world. The Council of good vampires have been following these actions and trying to determine what is happening. Finally, Jadyn who has been dreaming of a great war enters the investigation and discovers that an ancient artifact, the stone of Light and Life, which was once used by The Purest One to bring Lazarus back to life is being sought by The Evil One and his followers! For he wants to move back...into the upper realm!

The book culminates in one of the greatest battle scenes of all time! And you can be there through Guardians Of The Immortal Realms by Ruby Moon-Houldson! Well, readers, I’m on to Guardians of Immortal Humanity, Book 3 in this series. Are you hooked like I am? Will the next book be as great as this one? I believe this is a must-read series for fantasy and science fiction fans! And don’t forget the romantic tension in there! Hot!

I think you'll enjoy Guardians Of the Immortal Realms by Ruby Moon-Houldson. I know I did!

Review: The Unscratchables: A New Breed is Right!

The Unscratchables:A New Breed of Crime Novel
By Cornelius Kane
Scribner
ISBN: 9781416596417
259 Pages

On the back cover of The Unscratchables by Cornelius Kane , the book is declared a “hard-bitten crime story and a sharp-fanged satire,” but I must say that my most enjoyable feelings while reading the book was a fun comedy. The satire is there, sure, but many readers that enjoy the unusual will be carefully reading every word, to enjoy how the author has wonderfully translated the human world into “animal-speak”! Sometimes I smiled, sometimes I grinned, and sometimes I even laughed as characters were described:

Pompey was a giant Neapolitan Mastiff with undershot teeth, a slobber problem, and a clouded left eye where he’d run into a stick.

I was armed with a Fido & Wesson; Lap had a small carton of full-cream milk.

Scenes were developed:

I tried to ease into the spirit but all I could think about was that someone might see me [sitting beside a cat]...all sorts of dogs were crammed in...Celebrities: Brad Pitbull, Mutt Damon, Benji Affleck...

It all started when two ‘weilers were found near Slinky Joe’s Sardine Cannery. They had been cut up pretty bad. Barnabus’s droopy basset jowls smirked as he told Crusher that his autopsy showed that the Rottweilers were killed by a cat!

Max McNash (Crusher to his friends), a bull terrier Detective in the slaughter unit in San Bernardo and Siamese Cassius Lap of the FBI (Feline Bureau of Investigation) from Kathattan are teamed when the killer is identified as a feral cat.

As murders continue, Max has little to go on. A security guard is the next killed and then a man who worked at Chumps, where pet food is made! There seemingly was no relationship between any of those who had been killed. Little by little however, Cassius was developing a theory, one that might reach into the police department itself and even higher! And even though Max hated to admit it, he was slowly growing to admire and respect Lap, even if he did use trigger commands like “Stay” and “Good” to get Max’s support.

For no matter who was dying, somebody was responsible for how the cat had been changed into this “killing machine!”

This book is great! A fun read for animal lovers especially. For those that enjoy satire of governmental plots—it’s in there! But...wait until you read why the cat killed all the dogs!

Seriously, The Unscratchables by Cornelius Kane is a great mystery and I love great mysteries...but this “new breed” of cops starring Max and Cassius is, hopefully, the beginning of a new series. I’m wondering if the author can keep his wordplay up for more books! What say you, Mr. Kane?

Review: First Book in Spotlight Author Ruby Moon-Houldson's Guardian Series Leaves You Wanting More!

Guardian of an Immortal Soul
By Ruby Moon-Houldson
E-Book Time, LLC
ISBN: 1598240153
200 Pages

Just finished the first book in the Guardian Series of Ruby Moon-Houldson. In a recent interview with the author, Ruby indicated this was her second best loved series because she could do so much with it! Indeed!

And may I add... Wow!

Ruby has a way of placing an issue out to be solved and then proceeds to have her characters solve it, only to have added another bit of mystery by that time! The buildup of suspense continues until readers are so caught up in the story that they are living and wondering along with the characters—what in the world is going to happen next! At the same time, the author is one of the most prolific romance writers I have read, ensuring that lovers of this genre are very well satisfied.

No wonder the author talks about being able to do “anything!”

This series features Jadyn Rina Hanan and Christopher Varatoo. Christopher is a fireman/fire inspector and due to a skin condition must only work at night. (Hint?) Jadyn is an author and lectures at a local college. Her specialty is myths, legends and truths concerning paranormal events and mythical creatures.

Upon reaching their 30th birthday, both Jadyn and Christopher begin to have dreams—of each other! It is Jadyn who takes the initiative to try to find the location in her dream and determines it is a club about a half-hour away from her home called The Night Life. Two friends of Christopher, Adrian and Randu, own the club; and they are very anxious to help them meet, so when Christopher is not there initially, Jadyn was encouraged to wait!

Actually, it wasn’t love on first sight...

It was the rebirth of memories of their special love! For Jadyn had been reincarnated seven times and in each life, she had met and loved Christopher...

And in each life, she has attempted to return to Christopher what she has held for him for over 700 years. Jadyn is the Guardian of Christopher’s Immortal Soul!

Jadyn has discovered one more thing about herself—she is a witch! Quite a lot to swallow for an expert in mythical creatures! But her love for Christopher becomes more important than anything else in her life and she declares that, this time, Jadyn Rina Hanan, whose name means, God has heard the cry for mercy, will succeed! Already one impossible thing has happened, Jadyn is pregnant by a vampire!

There is a lot to learn about this series and its characters, so I urge you to read this first book before you proceed with any others. You’ll learn that even in the vampire world there are good and evil ones. You’ll learn about the “upper realms,” and that both Jadyn and Christopher are...so much more! The series was supposed to be a set of six but due to its popularity, the author is presently working on book 10. Over the upcoming weeks, I’ll be reviewing the entire set! How cool is that!

So, how about it fellow readers—join me in reading a great romantic sci-fi series, beginning with Guardian of the Immortal Soul by Ruby Moon-Houldson. Let’s talk about it soon!

Landed on The Writing Planet!

Well, I'm still amazed as I checked out more pictures of the Writer's Getaway for Sci-Fi Writer Ruby Moon-Houldson. According to her comments for the last blog entry, she even holds meetings in this pyramid-almost building!

I don't know, but all of the pylons that I remember from various places had some type of magic! Perhaps, we all become smaller when we enter??? What do you think?

Actually I love It!

Is This Cool...Or What! Writer's GetAWay!

WHAT IS IT???

Traveling along Highway 59 just south of Linton, IN, several eyes have alighted upon a curiosity sitting tall in a yard along the highway. The question asked is: WHAT IS IT?

The object…a 12x12x12 foot pylon-shaped building. A pylon looks like a pyramid but with the top cut straight across instead of being pointed. What is the building used for? Answer: It’s a quiet getaway spot for area author, Ruby Moon-Houldson.

When a critical or delicate point for a work in progress has been reached then Ruby can take a few steps out of her house and seclude herself for a time in a special atmosphere that will inspire creativity for her work.

The interior is unique–that of the author’s design. It includes neon lighted accessories, glow-in-the-dark wallpaper (stars and constellations), and blacklight reflective carpeting. Much of the building materials and interior decorating supplies were purchased from local merchants–Diana’s Wall Paper, and Ross’ Floor Store to name a couple. A few specialty retailers contacted the owner and contributed items for the project seeing that it was such a unique undertaking. A special gift from Nimoy—an autographed photo print from his ‘Shekinah’ series—hangs on the south wall.

To see the building click on the following link: http://rubymoon.ning.com/video/rubys-building (or the title of this article)

The entire outer shell is covered with smooth aluminum sheeting (a product available from the Amish), and held together with stainless steel screws. Erecting the building proved to be quite a challenge for the main builder. All he had to go by was a picture and a paper model–there were no building plans to be found on the Internet or through any other building construction source.

Careful planning and several long hours went into erecting this unique building which does indeed have electricity and air conditioning. Construction of this writer’s getaway took about 5 months to complete.

Now it is not uncommon for authors to have their own unique writing hideaway. There are some writers whose “hideaway” décor includes a mausoleum look, an Egyptian type atmosphere, outer space, or a jungle scene. Every writer is unique and so is their writing space.

So if you’re ever driving past a “pylon” like building south of Linton, IN, just know that a creative mind is probably hard at work there. For those who are in the area and are curious about the building, Ruby invites you to stop by and take a peek at creativity in progress. Countless people have already stopped in for a look. The building has already housed special guests—an area Writers Group—that held a meeting within the four slanted walls. Also a television news camera crew recently spent some time within the pylon shaped building—Ruby was interviewed within her writing abode. That interview can be found by following this link: http://rubymoon.ning.com/video/my-tv-interview

Thus far Ruby had written four books within her writer’s getaway and is currently writing “More Than Angels: Once Upon a Dream” and the 10th ‘Guardian’ book inside the unique building. While hiding out within the pylon shaped building, Ruby worked on much of the soon to be released Star Trek reference/tribute book—Celebrating Trek’s 40th Anniversary.

So visit the two links above and enjoy.

What do you think readers? Is this a cool site to write, or not????

Thanks so much, Ruby, for sharing this and responding to my request during your interview (for those who have not yet read Ruby's interview, just scroll down!!!
