I've wondered what reviewers experience, and you've confirmed that I made the right choice years ago to hire professional editorial assistance to ensure my work is in the best shape possible. No person, no author, especially me, can do everything. An unbiased outside eye sees things I don't or can't see. As I note both jokingly and seriously: Who wants the literary equivalent of a bad movie? "I want two hours of my life back!"<br /><br />However, there's a cost to professional help, and I'm not sure everyone has the financial means. Without the necessary money, it’s easy to diminish the importance. I've not regretted it, but I also recognize that I have the final say and it's up to me to deliver something entertaining. I'm reminded of an old saying: "I would rather read a good story poorly written than a bad story well written." One still has to have a good story, but it's still one's responsibility to ensure the mechanics of writing (copy edit, proofreading) have been dealt with.<br /><br />Thanks for the article. I consider it an honor to have somebody read my work. As a consequence, I consider it my responsibility to deliver something worthwhile, including professional editorial assistance. I can’t please everyone, but so far, nobody’s asked for two hours of their life back.William Quincy Bellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14337095766556949027noreply@blogger.com
